Hopefully they'll die out before then. But they can still use live witnesses and video cameras in that case.
With the rising cost of jet fuel, a scoreboard might have to separate into local communities. Will VHS-C and Hi8 still be around by then? I doubt it.
Just for the record, I have submitted attempts for Tetris and Tetris DX - only once though on one VHS tape, and this was way back.....around the end of 2005! When I first submitted my tape, the idea was to try and get the ball rolling and get some competition going which I thought, for a game like Tetris, would've been quite a popular game for competing in.....I mean, everyone owns Tetris right? But even now, a few years on, the number submissions and people on the list is quite dire - I can only put this down to the strict rules and restrictive methods to get officially verified.....I know that there are many capable players around and that the records should be much higher. Even so, I can't really complain about the time and effort that they must invest in watching every recording and verifying every attempt - that's definitely something to applaud them for, especially as this is done in their spare time and without any funding. But I also really wish that they would move with the times and accept digital recordings. I am quite baffled as to why they won't at least accept transfers from one source to another - how is one supposed to be able to notice anyway? As it stands, I haven't made any submissions since 2005 - I think that I still have another tape lying around somewhere with more attempts, which is probably over a year old, but I have just not been motivated at all to submit it. Perhaps if Spectre or other people on here endured the inconvenience with me and made a few submissions, I just might be tempted.....
TwinGalaxies requirements for submission was pretty much the only factor that prevented me from submitting my video. Having recorded the game directly to my computer, there was no way I was going to try for it again on a VCR a few days later, when I realized they would likely deny my submission. It seemed like YouTube would be a better alternative anyway, since a lot more people would see it, and it would be easier to show my friends. I might give it one more go this summer where I'll try to record it on a VCR; it's essentially my last summer vacation, and college is keeping me busy for now. I haven't played Tetris nearly as much since making that video, so it'll probably take me quite a few tries. It's not really that bad. I feel like my videos have gotten around enough for people to know that TwinGalaxies doesn't really have the highest scores around. One lingering fear I have, however, is that someone, someday, will match my record, and get theirs up on TwinGalaxies, leading many people to think my game illegitimate in some way. I don't lose any sleep over it or anything, but it's still not a pleasant thought.
Yeah !! The Spectre is coming back !! I seriously hate Twin galaxies..I tried few months ago to participate at a TGM1 contest..My submission has been rejected because my inp did not use their particular version..I became upset, they fired me..And then, they announced the great winner who had a powerfull rank S1, even if I had submitted a Gm around 11min one week ago..
As of a few months later, the recording FAQ is back up, and it doesn't appear to discriminate against DVD-R as much as c_t had said earlier.
or better yet go to funspot in new hampshire for in-person referees today through sunday for the arcade tournament. http://www.classicarcademuseum.org/tournament.htm i might be in attendence but not sure yet, deepdorp
Despite the variety of arcade Tetris titles, I'm 99.9% sure he means the 1988 Atari game rather than something like 1988 Sega, TGM, etc.. I don't foresee you being particularly fond of Atari Tetris, Amnesia.
Sorry I cant resist when I see someone coming here with the pseudo "Tetris world champt", and who just arrive without any introduction to say : "I am the god yes it is me, you are all shits.." Well, something like that..Was lazy to read it again.
Twin Galaxies appears to be down, seems to have been like this for a while. Did anyone ever get their 999,999 "officially verified"? Do we determine the "higher" 999,999 by lines?
Twin Galaxies is still in the process of changing hands. There is a dump of the score database available here. For GameBoy Tetris? To my knowledge, no. There are at least two other players with "unverified" max-outs at this point: Jobz and Quaid. If you wanted to tie-break, yes, you could see who can max-out with fewer lines cleared.
Just how does one record a Gameboy anyways if VHS is the only accepted file? Are they saying emulated score is fine as long as we transfer it?
No, certainly not. If you're recording from a handheld, you would use a camcorder. If you're recording from the GameBoy Player attachment for GameCube, you could use a VCR or DVD recorder as well. (It's worth noting that the Super GameBoy for SNES is not accepted for submissions, as a clock speed issue causes games to run slightly faster than the original hardware.) As previously alluded to, VHS-only is no longer a requirement. You could also submit DVDs, or arrange to have your ref download a video file using an agreed upon format/codec.
Hi, Last year I recorded one GB submission with iPhone and another with a camcorder and burned on DVD. Was both fine with TG ref. Back in 2006 I VHS taped a gamecube GBplayer game and submitted ... contoller makes it almost unplayable, even when I switched to a GB advance as controller. The gameplay had nothing to do wit the real GB tetris experience, whatsoever Let's see what will happen when(if) tg will be reborn in January.... Uli
"best tetris player in the world" is a silly idea. Its like asking who the best runner is or something. Maybe you can break it into categories so ya got me thinking: "classic" versions: either jonas or thor depending on how one thinks of it TGM: KAN battle: Hebo (although he dominated so long a longer term answer could be Blink) spint: Micro blitz art: Shuey There are a lot of very good players in all these categories, often there are many where the people listed above might be just BARELY better if at all, and there might be still more sub-sets within subsets, like someone who is particularly good at st stacking i think its called (where alexsweden might dominate) or perfect clearing, or downstacking. or getting large combos, yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, ya cant be the best at everything. Heck im the best at nothing, and with that... I'm A-OK As for TG yeah, they can take a number of different video formats but truth be told, its best right now to wait and read their new requirements wheneber they com back online.
