The Gamester may have died, but its memory still lives on in this Neo-Geo stick... :3

Ah ! you kept the whole card alive..
    Good work !

Have you seen how it is so annoying to cut such a shape ?

  3. Yep that's my stick! I used two cards glued together. The metal plate on the bottom of the Neo-Geo controller's joystick is about the same size as a credit card, so it's a very good fit.

It wasn't very annoying to me. I used a Dremel with a burr bit to cut the rough shape of the diamond then used hand files to shape it more precisely, it took about an hour. I stabbed my thumb when getting a bit enthusiastic with a file that has a sharp end on it... I always say a project isn't a project until I've put my flesh, blood, and tears into it!

It's a work in progress: I need to widen the diamond a little bit, clean and re-lubricate the joystick, replace the buttons with Seimitsu 24mm buttons, replace the rubber feet on the bottom, possibly add weights to it, and install an opto-isolator as a hack to make the PCB common ground.

As it is right now though, it works really well for playing TGM2+ on my laptop between classes, and I can't wait to improve it to work even better.

edit 10/25: Widened the restrictor, and thoroughly cleaned and lubed the joystick, now the stick is MUCH more responsive.

  4. The fact that you've been intelligent and used tools extending past just a sharp knife is probably why you found it easier. :V

  5. You take your stick to school with you?

  6. You don't?

Only if there's real possibility of playing tetris and there's no such hardware at my destination...
