I'd like to play Katamari (and Shadow of the Colossus)(and Ico)(and Okami)(and Rez)(and Guitar Hero)(and God Hand) once but I don't have a PS2, nor enough money to buy one (+ games) :S

a little, very underrated, and in the english speaking world completely unknown game gem is "game of robot". it is a ver unique cross of an puzzle, a roleplaying and an action game. and - it unfolds it very own charme that is unmatched in my own playing experience. it is in some aspects like zelda for gameboy, but in many other aspects much more complex and diverse ( i already see the stones flying at me [IMG] )

direct download (just unzip and run, no install):

    http://www.tom-games.de/beta/GameOfRobo ... 9RC39B.zip

although its in german, you can easily play it for a while. and if you should get hooked, try http://www.dict.cc

spoiler: this map shows the complete, huge world of ROBOT III:

    http://www.game-of-robot.de/maps/robot3 ... s/k_r3.htm

i suggest you to start with robotIII, the best of the series I-IV.

    german fan-site:

    http://www.game-of-robot.de/

(turn of speakers before loading, i have warned you)

thats it, enough about my second most loved game, besides tetris. third place would be halflife series and 4. gothic 1-3.

p.s. dont get disctracted by the graphics, the original game of robot series was made back in 1990. (download link shows an win32 port that works flawlessly on any modern computer). what makes this game BIG is the gameplay.

I've been playing a lot of shooter or shooter like games lately, besides Tetris. Such as:

    Every Extend

    Warning Forever

    Ray-Hound

    And some beat games, like:

    Elite Beat Agents

    Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan

    Stepmania

And of course, more puzzle games.

Puzzle League (GBA version is amazing)

    Magical Drop

    Picross

And yes, sometimes Quake. Anyone here like Rocket Arena?

  6. Re: off topic: Other games.

    1 or 3?

  7. Re: off topic: Other games.

I spent the last month with Christmas gifts:

    -Blast Corps

    -Guitar Hero

    -Gunpey DS

    and especially...

    -Beatmania IIDX

I'm just starting to put these aside and get back into a Tetris frame of mind... Got Death lvl 500 @ 3:25:20 today. Grrr....

I have quite similar tastes as you... Rayhound is the only game on the list I haven't logged time into (well, I haven't played Quake for real either). I especially like Warning Forever, if you feel like comparing scores or trading replays.

i've tested guitar hero just 1 week ago...

    really cool...

i think i will test deeper this game. but will rent it. :\

  9. Re: off topic: Other games.

another really cool game to train your brain:

    deadly rooms of death

    http://www.drod.net

its a brain game: you must kill cockroaches with your sword. every time you move, the roaches (and other, smarter enemies) move also a step. heading towards you. with the aim - guess what - to kill you. but clever moves and pressing levers and swinging your sword may save your live.

really really cool puzzler. in the beginning quite easy, lateron brutally hard.

I'd say that even the early parts can be brutally hard...

Since this thread is back, a few things that are coming up lately:

    Pump It Up

    In the Groove

I'm trying to get into shape again and these games are spectacularly fun ways to do it, though ITG is better for precision playing and Pumpy is better for throwing yourself around and twisting...

    Dodonpachi

    Progear

Some of Cave's danmaku. Bullet hell is probably the best thing to ever happen to shooters; if you haven't played the style, try it. Dodonpachi is the classic, Progear is spectacularly underrated...if you actually try those, Guwange, ESP Ra.De., and Fever SOS finish up the set. Note that the last two (ESPECIALLY THE LAST) can be VERY frustrating.

...also, I WANT TO PLAY MUSHIHIMESAMA, especially on Ultra Mode. It's tempting to get an import PS2 just for that or at least pay very close attention to the progress of PS2 emulation.

    Quakeworld

I've been off of it lately...nobody's interested. *sigh* and there were such high hopes for quake.bash.org over here, plus there's the never-to-be-finished mod... [IMG]

I've been playing the Guitar Hero series like mad since November when GH2 came out for ps2.

As for the Katamari series- I'm a HUGE fan. Can't wait for Beautiful Katamari for xbox 360.

If you're really bored and don't mind the poor quality, watch me own the Cowbear level in We Love Katamari: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0055445646

Basically, you need to get to 7m7cm77mm to pick up the Cowbear, but I wanted to get the elephant, which required about 9m5cm. It took a lot of patience and tons of restarts, but I did it =)

if you like such games, i also suggest the older, but nonetheless fantastic "spheres of chaos":

Along the lines of shooters, there's a demo of Touhou 10 floating around. Go look up TH10 demo torrent and DOWNLOAD IT. WARNING: it's REALLY hard. Start with Normal unless you're a hardcore shmuper.

Also note that it lags a bit on my p4 1.3 GHz with 256 RAM and a GEForce 2.

  15. Re: off topic: Other games.

I play Panel De Pon a lot (no, I don't have a DS, but I have a good usb controller and I use that with an emulator).

    Also, Touhou 9, Imperishable Night.

And Touhou 9.5, Shoot The Bullet.

PS: I can't wait for Touhou 10 full version to come out.

PPS: here is a place with all the touhou games and touhou 10 demo.

Wow, you have great taste sir! It's a shame you don't live near me, I have every single one of those games and wouldn't mind lending you my PS2 to play them on.
I know lots of people love Mushi, but personally I think the scoring system is really obscure (or maybe I just don't get it...) it basically involves hammering buttons to pump up counters that you then "bank", or something like that. Here's an INH promo video that you might have already seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SESYeGeur9Y . If you want my recommendation, go for Daioujou instead, if you like Dodonpachi, you'll love Daioujou. Also, the quality of the port (done by Arika) is far better than Cave's in-house job on the Mushi port.

Anyways, it's great to see that some of you guys love shmups. I also see that a lot of you like Katamari as well, good stuff indeed! Personally, I mainly like shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, and puzzle 'em ups. Generic anything-else-'em ups usually don't appeal to me at all (I absolutely hate Rockstar games). Recently I've been mostly playing Psyvariar 2, Katamari Damacy (the first one), Virtua Fighter 5, Puyo Puyo!, and Battle Garegga.

Does anyone know of a good collaborative filtering site for video games? I've been looking for new games to try out but most things my friends suggest end up disappointing.

Wow, you have great taste edo! [IMG]

I get the impression that you'll already be familar with any awesome games I recommend you. But off the top of my head you want to give Panel de Pon, Twinkle Star Sprites, and Super Monkey Ball (1 on Gamecube if possible) a try.

Oh, don't get me wrong, if I get a Japanese PS2, I'm definitely getting Daioujou also (as well as ESPGaluda and perhaps Psyvariar 2). My interest in Mushihimesama is mainly in experiencing its uniquely absurd bullet showers. As a mediocre shmuper at the moment (15.8 mil on stage 5 is my best on Dodonpachi at the moment), I expect to die quickly in all of them, but hey, it'll be fun.

    I have quite a list...

    Kingdom of Loathing

    Puzzle Pirates

Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack / Planet Puzzle League

    Mario series

Rockman (a.k.a. Megaman in English) - particularly the EXE (Battle Network) series, and also now Ryuusei (Star Force)

    DDR

    beatmania IIDX

    DrumMania / Percussion Freaks

    Guitar Hero

    Pop'n Music

    Puyo Puyo

    Super Monkey Ball

I probably missed something, but this is all that pops into my head right now.
