VSHG is not backwards compatible. It's PS3 or PC only. For PC, with Mame or other programs, it opens you up to a lot more than just Tetris though.
I tought so. My problem is that TGM1 on my p4 2,8Ghz 1Gb already is slow. I also read that the WSHG performs bad at Virtua Fighter 5 on the ps3. I don't know about Tekken 5, my girlfriend is Tekken addicted and would also like an arcade stick, but she's a concole only gamer. I know the VSHG is the better choice, but money wise if the Hori Fighter Stick 3 is PS2 compatible and easy to connect to a PC it makes me wonder what to get.
Everything I've read suggests that the VSHG is superior to the HRAP3. The HFS3 is an inferior stick, but it is cheaper, so if money is important it's probably not a bad option. TGM1 runs badly on Mame. TAP actually runs far more smoothly. Heboris would probably work better too. Is the "WSHG" a typo? It would surprise me if the VSHG was bad for VF5, seeing as it's actually the game it was designed for. Some reviews: http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=806 ... Id=5746297 http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-st ... de-review/ The second one in particular writes about using the stick for VF5 and T5DR
I've been doing my reading in the meanwhile. the WSGH is indeed a typo, excuse my wodka intake. It seems the VSHG supports PS2 titles since firmware 1.7 on the PS3 only PS2 titles are non region free on the PS3. For fighting games not such a problem, but for cave shmups it is i guess. I don't know about european shmups. I cannot modchip my PS3 since sony owns it. My girlfriend works for sony playstation and we borrow a PS3 The most funny part about that is she cannot tell her colleagues how much i enjoy the dualshock 3 i imported thru yesasia with super stardust hd since her employer disapproves importing ...
The VSHG is reported to have problems with pressing 3 buttons at one time. The HRAP 3 does not have a worse stick the the VSHG. They both sport a sanwa JLF series stick. The HRAP 2 and 3 both use Hori stock buttons which is why the HRAP is thought to be worse then the VSHG. But from what i've heard the HRAP has quick disconnects on the buttons and it is a very popular stick in the fighting community. Everyone that i have talked to imports the HRAP 2 or 3 and just replaces the buttons.
The brand of buttons is virtually not important for the ways TGM makes use of them. Sanwa, Seimitsu, Hori, I don't really care what brand they are it will not impact performance in the slightest. So the VSHG and the HRAP3 are both excellent in my opinion. The HFS3 isn't that good though because it's difficult to mod into a 4-way stick. The other 2 sticks can easily be modded back and forth between 8-way and 4-way for all your gaming needs.
Well, with Seimitsu sticks (eg. in the HRAP SE), you actually have to unscrew several screws to change the guide. It's a little more involved, but yeah, still very easy.
You'll have to break out the screwdriver when you're going to open the Arcade Stick nonetheless.. so when you already have the screwdriver in your hand - four more screws won't make a huge difference But yeah, changing a Sanwa stick between 4-way and 8-way is easier (once you know how).
But if you're going to buy a HRAP3 and change the buttons, you might as well buy a VSHG, because it's cheaper, and change the buttons on that (they also use quick disconnects).
Sanwa buttons have been described as too sensitive for some people's tastes though. I think that is what makes 3-button combos hard.
Possibly, I don't know what people are referring to though. I've been trying to test this so called issue myself, and the VSHG doesn't appear to have any troubles with multiple inputs no matter what kind of combination I try. I can hold down 4 buttons and push 6 other buttons at the same time while jerking the stick and it'll register every input flawlessly. It's true that the buttons are extremely sensitive though, and the first time I was playing TGM with my stick I rotated pieces unknowingly. It's something you get used to really quickly though.
I think it's just that if you have to press three buttons simultaneously, and at a specific time, it can be difficult because they are sensitive. I don't really get it either. I'm just going on various things I've read.
Normally i would agree with you. But the people reporting the problems are at the same level of dedication that many people here are to tetris. They've got these games down, and they usually do play with all sanwa. It's a bug in the programing, i tested it out and it only happens about 1/8th of the time. However, that one eighth could completely ruin a good fighting game. And Lee the problem isn't being able to hold them down. Its being able to hit them all at the same time. The joystick seems to leave one out every once in a while for about 3 milliseconds.
I know.. and I have been actively trying to reproduce this behaviour. I have even tried to push even more buttons at the same time and they still register. I seriously don't know what people are talking about.
Get a program that shows when you hit the button and for how long in milliseconds, then you'll probably be able to reproduce it. i used Melty Blood (a fighting game) in training mode to see it myself.
Oh damn, I just thought of this. What are the shipping prices like? Is there an American store I can order from? I don't really want anything much over 100$
