Just a minor note, the supposed patent was for Initial Rotate, not ARE. 1988 Sega Tetris led the way for TGM's ARE, but 1989 NES Tetris also had its own ability to buffer moves out of entry delay; although NES does not allow you to accumulate DAS charge during its 10 frame entry delay, it does allow you to redirect accumulated charge held over from the previous piece.

    Also, GB Tetris technically does have ARE, but it is a uselessly short 2 frame time that doesn't have any interesting properties...
