Oh, how I long for the days when newly anticipated or released games immediately got a thread on Tetrisconcept before anywhere else. Anyway, this seems to be a refreshing new guideline game.

It's definitely the prettiest Tetris game to come out so far.

    Coming "Fall 2018".

  2. Right now it seems to be the aesthetics that are it's selling point than the gameplay. So for now I'd be keeping an eye out for actual gameplay footage and reviews from reputable sources. At least it can't be as bad as Ubisoft's blunder, right? ;)

  4. Wow mihara is gonna be pissed when he finds out they stole the rounds gimmick.

  5. This all sounds very promising. I'm excited!

It's not really the Rounds gimmick, at least from how I see it. In Rounds certain lines would freeze and not clear until the end of the section or something. They wouldn't move to the bottom. Also the gimmick in Rounds was meant to be dangerous, this is more like a power up.

  6. Yeah after watching the interview with Giant Bomb, it's clearly different.

  7. Yeah, it's not Rounds frozen rows, it's the Tetris Monsters move-to-bottom line clear mechanic.

  8. I thought you meant the gimmick of cluttering the playfield with particle effects so you can't see what's going on, and was wondering why Mihara would want to have that in his game.

Just found this video on my youtube feed..

This game seems beautiful but a bit boring.. Hope all those particles effects will not ruin the visibility at high speed

  10. For some reason I didn't think about it, but I just realised the game "only" has one preview, which is amazing. Wether or not I'm getting this might depend entirely on wether the hold function can be disabled. I know PPT had that, but I don't know if it's the standard in guideline games? I find single player Tetris incredibly boring when pure survival doesn't require even a bit of skill.

Also, did anybody notice if the randomizer is bag?

    interesting.
so on the one hand it can be used as an "oh crap, i need to fix things" button and give you the aiblity to easily get the pieces where you need them, and on the other hand it can be used to make a ludicrously big line clear for mega points.

you can bust out a 2 wide or a 4 wide in the zone for mega score.

  13. Uh-oh, he just called grouped TGM with "modern" guideline variants. Bring out the pitchforks!

I really wish the guy making the video had some sort of insight into Tetris, and didn't use his platform to spread downright false facts ("classic tetris" isn't about speed?), but at least he means well, and does a good attempt.

  14. tfw classic players don't want TGM to be classic yet modern tetris players don't want TGM to be modern. Just can't fit anywhere.
Though from an outsider's perspective of Tetris, NEStris wouldn't seem "fast" as you can still see the pieces falling (and you mathematically compare the gravity of LV18 to TGM, TGM would technically be 60x faster when it clearly isn't.) Yet the pieces placed per second and the need to commit to your move before it spawns makes it play far differently than it looks.

Well, it is Nintendo Tetris, after all.

  16. It's not so much about wether or not NES Tetris is "fast" (which it is, of course), but the fact that its speed is exactly what makes it hard. I mean, there are other factors too, but keeping up with level 19 NTSC is a challenge for anyone who isn't crazy used to it. The slow DAS and lack of lock delay wouldn't matter if the game wasn't super fast.

  17. I'm loving the music, specially the Kechak song, my god, it's amazingly intense.
I'm really looking forward this game, but I guess it's not meant to be for "hardcore" audience and more like a casual relaxing game, right?

  19. Had the chance to play the game at CTWC too.

Gotta say the game feels good, and I really enjoyed it. But it's absolutely a casual game.
As expected, particle effects did at times obscure the gameplay quite directly to the point where it would affect someone going for any kind of optimal achievement. It's very rare that it happens (usually at level transitions), but that only makes it more jarring when it does.

According to one of the actual developers, getting 20 lines during zone mode "requires being lucky with the pieces", which I think says a lot about what they are going for here. That said, it's already extremely easy to get a high number of lines in. if you build up a tall, good stack, and enter zone mode with an I piece coming up and another on being held, you're good to go for a pretty high line count.

I only managed to use zone mode 2 or 3 times during the demo they had available though. I simply kept forgetting it existed.

The effect of the VR goggles is fairly neglectable. You can easily play the game without it and get a similar experience, while also being able to notice if your house is on fire.
