  2. For me it was similar — I play freely on level 18, often winning over 500k, but level 19, usually I finish after a dozen or so lines. So I started training level 19, but the progress was not satisfactory. Mainly due to the loss of DAS and problem with burning lines during drought.

That's why I started level 18 in the PAL version as a transitional stage. This level is slightly faster than 18, but slightly slower than 19 in NTSC. After a week of training, I returned to level 19 in NTSC and it is much better. I now play alternately, several times level 18 in the PAL version and several times level 19 in NTSC.

If you like, you can try — in the end you also play on the emulator, so you have access to both versions of the game. But remember that the PAL version works faster and it is harder — the faster the pieces drop down and the DAS runs faster, so if you have never played it before, you will initially have a problem with the skill stop.

  3. They, thanks for the advice. But I don't really wanna change to PAL and mess up my timings for now. I also considered slowing down the emulation a little, but same effect. I'm kind of a timing gamer, been my biggest strength since ever. So don't want to mess with it.

My bigger problem is not really understanding DAS too much. I mean, I understand that it's a recharge for piece-movement. But I don't really get the ways to manipulate that recharge. Courtesy of being a non-native speaker. Makes the understanding of it kinda tricky.

On the bright side, I did manage to go up to 90 lines at 19, today. Albeit not really tetrising.

Another personal record beaten! And even a few — a new personal record of points, first time beaten the barrier of 700k points and the first time beaten the barrier of 200 lines.

The help in the form of training level 18 in the PAL version helps a lot in better control the pieces in the level 19 in the NTSC version.

Kill screen is so close! :)

Another personal record, previous beaten by several single/double. But I'm still happy because on level 19 I made four tetrises. Transition from level 18 to 19 using a tetris, with 128 lines and just over 500k points.

Kill screen is already close, but I suspect that one more month or two and I will finally get a max-out. And then I will provide the video (or maybe earlier) as a real proof, not just screenshots. ;)

  8. You don't need a video (just picture evidence should work), but it's good practice to record when playing.

  12. Point of my maxout isn't 28+2.03. It is 29+1.97

  13. I've been doing a good job of typoing the end level in the score spreadsheet lately. :p Anyhow, it turns out it's 29+1.89.

    代碼:
    >>> 228+((999999-964960)/float(1200*30))*4
    231.89322222222222

  14. Thanks, sorry, I've mistaken in maths (counted last tetris as if was a single line worth 36000)

  15. No worries. :) The scoreboard script calculates it, so as long as I have the right end level/lines, pre-max score, and line clear type entered, it gives the right fractional line count. I just accidentally entered the wrong level since it was crossing the boundary from 28->29.

  20. Hi all, I've been playing a few months inspired by watching CTWC on YouTube and the documentary movie. Great stuff!

Currently I just play on my laptop using the keyboard and Nestopia. Can't get a console yet as I'm travelling. But is there a better laptop/keyboard/emulator way? I see a lot of talk of lag.

Not great yet but I'm amazed at the progress. Transitioning to Level 10 used to be terrifying and the death of me; then I got to starting on Level 15 and was on that for a while, till I hit 450k. 18 seemed impossible but after plunging into 19 (very happy to have scored even one Tetris and get 20 lines) 18 now seems doable (current high on that 266k) so I'm getting a sense of how the guys at the top survive and prosper. Little by little, everything seems to be slowing down and making more sense.

I'm 43. Never played NES. Very fun to get into something like this. :)
