Not sure about Aussie TVs, but I can tune into my AV Famicom's composite signal fine (albeit in black and white). Of course the NESRGB is a two-birds-in-one-stone solution, as it both enables the console to work with any TV that accepts SCART, as well as improving picture quality immensely! A US NES would probably be easier to setup than a Famicom, but I'm not sure how cheap/easy those are to get in Oz.
The main problem is that the TV's I use for my gaming run at 50Hz (-they don't have an inbuilt switch to change between 50Hz and 60Hz like most of the newer sets). As for your NES RGB solution; well, all I can say to that is "spiffing ace mate!!!" Talk about a neat-o solution RGB-SCART TV’s are quite rare this side of the world (especially these days), but all the TV's I run are (thankfully) RGB SCART - as are all of my consoles, except for [drum roll] my NES! So this is basically the solution I have been looking for all these years! Thanks for bringing this mod to my attention; really appreciate it! I can track down either console easily enough - I would be importing anyways so it really doesn't make a great deal of difference, but I probably would prefer a US NES over a Famicom. Thank again! - Jono
In that case I would recommend getting a top loader NES2, as they're much more robust than front loaders and their only downside is their low quality RF video output, but with the NESRGB you'll be replacing the video and audio circuits anyway. There's even a custom 3D-printed Nintendo AV Multi-out port for it so you don't have to drill holes in your NES:
I know you're already sold, but I've got this RGB NES kit and can attest that it works fantastically. If you have questions or want pictures don't be shy. Also I can easily obtain very cheap NTSC NES systems if you want me to hook you up. The bloke who designed/sells the RGB kits is Aussie!
I already have a top-loader/NES-2 – and 2x NES’ I have many consoles Wow, talk about convenient! I really do need to look at upgrading my NES sometime in the near future (particularly now that I have seen this!). Thanks heaps for the offer colour_thief; really appreciate it I might have to take you up on that offer (once I get on-top of my many bills that is). Haha! This just keeps on getting and better and better I wouldn't be surprised if its the same guy that makes RGB video-out chips for Sega Game Gears (-I brought one from an Aussie seller a few years back who did all sort of custom mod's for video game consoles). - Jono
No wait.... janutzska actually still beats it! But didn't actually took on the challenge. I guess it's up to boblaze to keep on fightin'
I guess it's up to me to beat that... ... I wonder though, could you remind me the rules? I think I might beat your score very soon
