Records: [NES NTSC] A-Type

  1. Re: [NES] A-Type

I compiled some stats on all the maxout videos I know of. I sorted these by level of maxout to just one decimal, and then broke ties by the rank of I block frequency (fewer is higher ranked) at the moment of maxout. I was mostly just curious about this stat for the purposes of this post. I think the level calcuation sort in this thread is very good, though I think it's at least noteworthy what the block distribution is too. In 6 of the 10 vids, the I block is the most frequently sent. In Thor's it is the least sent, and in the others the rank of frequency is 2, 4, 4.

    Player/Video T J Z O S L I Level I-Rank
    Buco 72 70 63 76 75 76 89 26.5 1
    Harry (1B) 75 90 91 73 91 76 83 28.9 4
    Ben 77 89 95 69 72 78 97 28.9 1
    Harry (19) 85 90 89 70 77 80 90 28.9 1
    Thor 88 84 81 86 96 82 79 29.0 7
    Eli 79 81 72 69 88 91 100 29.0 1
    Jonas (1B) 95 92 90 71 76 80 82 29.1 4
    Jonas (19) (2009) 85 83 72 93 83 78 87 29.1 2
    Alex 79 85 89 89 79 82 91 29.1 1
    Jonas (19) (200B) 85 84 77 87 84 78 96 29.1 1

Cool. :) I formatted that into a table on Google Docs for ease of viewing.

    EDIT: Actually, let me try...

    Code:
    Player/Video	T	J	Z	O	S	L	I	Level	I-Rank
    Buco 72	70	63	76	75	76	89	26.5	1
    Harry(18)	75	90	91	73	91	76	83	28.9	4
    Ben 77	89	95	69	72	78	97	28.9	1
    Harry(19)	85	90	89	70	77	80	90	28.9	1
    Thor 88	84	81	86	96	82	79	29	7
    Eli 79	81	72	69	88	91	100	29	1
    Jonas(18)	95	92	90	71	76	80	82	29.1	4
    Jonas(19)[2009]	85	83	72	93	83	78	87	29.1	2
    Alex 79	85	89	89	79	82	91	29.1	1
    Jonas(19)[2008]	85	84	77	87	84	78	96	29.1	1
Sweet, it copy-pastes from the spreadsheet rather nicely. :D Only required some minor editing.

Hey guys, I understand these types of discussions kind of come up naturally, but how would you feel about maybe splitting things off to a thread in the strategy and/or general discussion forums? That way new people can find it more easily (it won't be buried inside a records thread) and the records thread stays for posting scores.

I'll help out with splitting if you guys are willing :)

    Kitaru - thanks, looks great!

Re. where to post - yeah, I haven't traversed the forum that much yet, so if there's a better place to post this, feel free to move it. The sense in which it kind of ties to this thread is it relates to another way of thinking about how scores can be evaluated in terms of the difficulty of getting them.

  5. Re: [NES] A-Type

So it looks like Bo is coming to my place on saturday to play and i thought, whny not widen it!

We will compete in "standard" skype format:

First we play 6 A type games from 18 and we total our 3 higest games.

Second we have 20 minutes (any game started within the 20 minutes counts) of free play on 19 and keep our highest 3.

"winners" in this, unlike in the world championships can be murky. maybe someone had the highest game of the night but not the highest when you add all 3, or maybe the highest on the 18 side but not the 19.... In these competition we are ok with ambiguity... we embrace it! but despite that the overall winner is the person with the highest combined total from 18 and 19 (cuz we gotta have some rule right?)

Input your own name and scores here (because im not going to do it for you, and we should keep track of these things):

here is the adress of the "skypesque" place we should all meet; basically it allows for multiway video chat. test it out prior to saturday!:

Stuff you would need: a webcam and a way to hook it up, or some darn thing that can videochat

  6. Re: [NES] A-Type

Jake, new high score: 680,064 @ lvl 21.

    Pretty amazing pace actually!

  7. Re: [NES] A-Type

Goodbye to my previous high of 750k...

    Finally, after months, something better:

    878,720
    554,938 transition
    230 lines
    8 tetrises at 19 speed

It didn't really look like it was going to be a good tetris night, with a string of below average games. Then, this one came along. Hopefully I'll have my next high score update in about 10 months. :)

Is Jake also known as 'rocketman'? If so, I think some of his recent posts might have been inadvertently deleted as spam.

  9. Re: [NES] A-Type

    yes, jake = rocketman!

  10. Re: [NES] A-Type

    whoa wait.... also, GO RIZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Re: [NES] A-Type

Wow. Props to Rizz and Chad. Amazing feats, guys! :awe: Humbling and inspiring at the same time. Maybe this will get me to stop torturing myself with 19 and actually spend some time shooting for a good overall high score.

  12. Re: [NES] A-Type

    Thanks guys,

My new high score seems to have been a confidence builder, because tonight, I had another decent game. Although it's not a new high, it's another score that tops my old record (that old record stood for months).

I don't think I'll upload the video, but here's the stats:

    774,580
    202 lines
    510,760 transition
    7 tetrises at level 19

  13. Re: [NES] A-Type

    john Byram: 686649 on level 29 ?

  14. Re: [NES] A-Type

Alex, you could update the video by my high score if you wanted to, I have the second half of my 913 game:

Or, I'm uploading a 910 complete game right now.

  15. Re: [NES] A-Type

so long as updates are being made, davids video could be updated too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n-jn12-PvA (I like the sped up notion)

we have so actuve a group now it will probably wear on alex to update all the time hahaha

  16. Re: [NES] A-Type

After 3 1/2 months of placing far too much pressure on myself just to get back to my old high score...I finally got something done. 604,820 @ 203 lines from Level 18. It's not pretty, but now that I've cleared that mental hurdle, it's on to bigger and better things. :p

  17. Re: [NES] A-Type

I'm still using that crappy little Python script I hacked up in an afternoon to facilitate adding entries and auto-formatting the score table, so it's usually pretty quick. :p
