  1. Really should have slowed down at the end, that could have been a fast clear :\

  2. Holy shit guys!

My heart was pounding from 850 on, because I played a really clean game and was still in control on a fairly good stack and it just felt a little too good to be true. In the end I frighteningly fucked up a bit, but I made it! :D

Uploading the video in a second, I'm too hyped to wait to post!

    Edit: Video's up!

  3. Nice, I'm impressed.

Will watch this later, but for now, congratulations, you got it!

  4. Congrats, steadshot!
That's just a fucking amazing achievement and it didn't even take you long. I knew you had it in you but I didn't think you'd get it this soon, haha. I watched the video and it seems I was just wrong... you were in complete control most of the run.

Now get a GM at Eindhoven!

your playing style is strange... I cannot predict your moves. But you managed to keep a clean stack for almost all the 5OO-999. Good job and big congrats!!

  6. Thanks guys!

clincher: I'll try, I think I have a good chance if I can adapt to stick fast enough this meeting (or if I get my stick before eindhoven).

That made me smile, hope it's at least fun to watch ;)

  7. For some reason I started sucking at Sudden and being consistent at my worst demon, Special. Here's some sort of try that was trolled by the level stop.

Though it seems more lenient than the actual Master mode, I got S9 at 8:01:96, 884, regarding the mfm005 challenge. I'm pretty satisfied with it, and I'm hopeful there will be something more than S9 before Eindhoven =)

  8. Oh man, you realize the only reason you didn't get an M is that your first section took too long? Other than that you met every requirement. You should start quitting runs if don't get sub65 in the 0-100 section.

No, that's the wrong mentality entirely. He should keep practising runs until he gets sub65 in the 0-100 section.

  10. That depends. If you're exclusively shooting for an M, then it's a waste to not resign the game. If you're also fine with getting a fast time, then sure, missed requirements aren't a big deal and may even make you push harder as at this point you're solely time-attacking.

I consider it sub20G section practice to restart before 500 if I miss anything and if I don't I can just continue and have a shot at the rest of the game. After 500 it's different, at that point you might as well finish to practise 20G if you feel like it.

Of course it can get tedious if you have to end 20 games or so in a row, but I prefer it to getting a game where every requirement is met except for the first section.

  11. Well, I prefer getting consistent so I don't end up with my hands shaking in the last section (much like what happened in my last video, that potential M), or in the later pre20g sections, so I just do it entirely every time.

Also, I remember when getting <S3 at Normal 500 was getting me so down I would die seconds after. I consider it a personal achievement to keep it going, regardless of the time spent.

That's the best way to do. There is no perfect game, and ultimately being consistent better than time attack.
This is exactly why KAN is the best : he can do everything on demand..

  13. I wasn't talking about time attack nor do I really care for it. I don't see how restarting within the first section in order to have a shot at the M-grade is an anti-consistency mentality, rather trying to get a legitimate run while you're still well-concentrated. It's not a case of "locking like a madman disregarding the stack to achieve the requirement", it's a matter of one or two seconds in this case.

I treat it like this: I practise 500-999 and 0-500 seperately; during the latter I restart if I don't meet an requirement since I know I'm able to do it and keep going if I happen to get them all. So ultimately I'm getting consistent and I'll be in the habit of paying attention to levelstops, no time attack involved.

Wouldn't your hands be shaking anyways when you notice you haven't failed any requirement during the last section or do you not pay any attention to time/level/tetrises at all and just let it surprise you?

your hands WILL shake no matter what you do when you're close to a big achievement you haven't already done. The problem with focusing on stacking consistency is that it's detriment to speed (eg: Kan is the best all-around player but except for ti master he has no world record). Tap Master speed requirements are unfortunately very high.
I'd say steal your first M and work consistency for the others.

  15. Hmm, I prefer not to aim for anything when I'm in game. I sometimes even hide the time. The only time marker I willingly get is when playing special up to 100, sudden and sudden ti up to respectively 300 and 500 (or 280 - 480 more especially), and it's the music (which is mainly why I play on nahu's clone, to have the same markers.) I just feel better when I don't look at the time (which is why I am starting to like Special much more than Sudden), I want to stress the personal aspect of my method, I don't want to make it an objectively good example for others, and it's okay if you disagree.

Of course, my hands still get shaky, and I understand your advice concerning my M, I might try that next time, but I might also prefer reaching this personal goal of mine, playing with no interruption. Besides, I AM a KAN fanboy, and in my opinion his high-score Death GM is worth all the praise =)

Thanks for your advice and support

  16. I'm a huge KAN fanboy myself: I'm a big fan of overhangs, solid finesse, loads of tetrises (espescially in Death) and most of all the "no-holes-but-if-you-make-one-fix-it-immediately" mentality. Eventually I want to get to a point where I'm consistent enough that I can get both TAP GMs in at least 1 out of 10 runs (maybe 1 out of 20 for Death).

But that also means I eventually have to push the sub20G sections a little (and pay attention to levelstop traps) to get sub65 consistently. Once those hurdles are out of the way I can focus on stacking entirely and optimize it. At least that's how I see it.

BTW: Are you a stick player or a keyboard player?

  17. I play on keyboard, but I will soon get my hands on an arcade stick

  18. Ok, then we're gonna suck equally at the Eindhoven meeting :awe:
