  1. Phantom Mania is probably not okay since it is literally invisible Death with one or two extra requirements. Retro Mastery (not Retro Mania, I don't know what the stance on Sega Tetris is) is okay since it's not based off TGM at all.

  2. actually, the thread is called "tetris clones", not "tgm clones"...

  3. I still think we should focus on convincing TTC to introduce new guidelines. Something like...

    "Guideline" for casual games
"Guideline+" for advanced games/modes (like the Expert HD mode people are talking about at Hard Drop)
    "Guideline TGM" for TGM games

And that's all they'd need. Sure, other games might come asking for their own guideline, but... no. TGM only gets one because it's so radically different from the standard Tetris game.

name one reason that ttc would ever do that or deviate from their current business plan

  5. Tournaments. They already know that the best players don't like the Guideline, and based on what I've read at HD, they're at least willing to change parts of it. And if there's ever going to be a more advanced guideline, then we can try to sneak in another for TGM games.

the best players are a minuscule market share compared to their primary demographic and will likely never get more than a few tiny tweaks to placate them

  7. But the people in their primary demographic aren't going to be winning tournaments, like the upcoming Tetris Friends tournament. The best players are, and from what I've read, they definitely want to be playing on a more advanced platform. This wouldn't have to affect the casual players at all.

... And if the Guideline ever gets expanded, we can try to convince them to make an exception for TGM too.

all of what you are saying sounds prohibitively difficult and wasteful considering the amount of talent in this community that could be put towards making a functional engine that is functional to the extent of being indistinguishable from a polished, commercial product

  9. I'd rather not get into the whole semantics debate about how cloney a clone is. I think it's best just to avoid anything cloning tetris. When I said original, I meant it in a Blocksum kind of way.

  10. That's what I thought about fighting games until capcom released street fighter IV, driving hundreds of thousand people back to that kind of games.
I mean, three years ago, people in france would have talked about organising a tournament with more than 1000 people participating, everyone would have laughed. And that happened.
And I'm talking about IRL tournament, where you need to drive a couple of 100 kms to go. So online tournaments...

  11. No, since "ARS is a registered trademark from Arika" (watch the trademark screen on TAP)

  12. No? It says IRS and TLS were designed by Arika, but they haven't any trademarks nor patents in that regard. It would be strange if Arika actually had a trademark on player terminology like ARS.

that's your opinion and you are entitled to it lol

  14. orz I think you have made your position clear and have nothing further to add to this thread.

If Mihara san tell again that MAME is bad for his business, will you lock all MAME related stuff/ record and grant post access to thrusted user only?

at this point, you must anticipate the level stop, and finally go to the next section.

    Let's go better next time...

Are you aware that this is the last nail in the coffin of the already dying western TGM (and especially TI) community?

Are you aware TGM series is as good as dead? There's no way to rationalize this decision.
You are shutting things down in the hope of, one day, maybe, play a neutered TGM spinoff without the things that makes TGM, TGM. And with lolis. A game series that only generate their revenue in japanese arcades and that's it, a game you won't contribute to anyway unless you're a japanese game center regular.

I thank mihara for continuing the arcade/sega tetris tradition and he really did well. TI is a masterpiece. However he is far from being alone in making what TGM is today. Amateur clones is the only way we will see evolution in these steps.

There's no bigger picture to see. Guideline will be guideline, TTC will be TTC and will continue to spit on you. Clones are the only way there will be evolution in the right steps. You said you wanted originality, but look what happened to DTET.

Damn, Henk wins again. He's such a dickbag but how can we hate him anyway? He always gets what he wants.

Yes I made this account just to post this.

Haha, Western TGM is far from dead. Getting bigger and bigger. Seattle TGM, NorCal TGM, Strasbourg, man, fuck. So much interest from loads of cool people.
Western TGM is far from dying, and it won't ever die. It also doesn't need bad reproductions of the originals to thrive. This is the TGM community we're talking about, not the LockJaw community or the Nullpo community. Clones are just distractions from playing some goddamn TGM!

  18. How exactly do you define "dying" because the stats show the complete opposite:

    http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/showthread.html?t=1495

Worth noting by 2009 it means "end of 2009" so those stats are at least up to date as of the last year.

dead or not.. things changes fast around here

  20. I don't think those charts do a good job of indicating how many people are actively playing TGM. I'm pretty sure they include people who have posted a record and then haven't been heard from in three years.
