If there isn't a .nv file included, I'm assuming that it was recorded from a blank NVRAM. Have you tried playing it back with your .nv file moved out of the nvram folder?
It's a Gm game cut short by a really stupid top-out at level 660. I included the nvram but it needs to be played back with shmupmametgm.
Thank you both! This is what I use in command prompt: mametgm tgmj -playback tgm1s7.inp I still get out of sync error messages at title screen. Tried both mame0.137 and 0.138. I put the .inp file in the inp folder and the .nv file in the nvram folder. Also tried putting both files in the both folders... Since I've been having problems playing inp files in TGM for ages now it's clear I'm at fault. No problems at all in TAP. ;
No. You really have to use shmupmametgm and not vanilla mame, most notably because of the higher poll rate which affects how often data is written to the inp file.
Thanks for your patience muf. Before I used mame 0.137/8 as a starting point. And added the files you linked to above, thinking things would work. I finally got everything working after I created an empty folder to which I added the files in the shmupmametgm folder. Then I created inp, nvram and roms folders for their respective files. I saw the the game a few moments ago. Nice speed and clean stacking in the first part (around 05:50). You even kept stacking high in the 300-500 sections. From what I've seen 20G looks good. Had you slowed down instead of pushing like crazy after you made a mistake early on in the 600-700 section, you might have recovered. You were on track for a time under 12 minutes. You're at Gm level. You'll get it sooner if you take it more easy and keep the stack lower. Just keep playing.
Thanks. I'm more concerned about performance than about achievement though. Getting Gm is nice but I'd rather have promising games cut short like this because of ambition, than have a really slow first Gm. Speed really is the only thing I can bring to the table, so an important milestone for me is to crown my day of infinite happiness with a sub-12 time.
Excellent job muf!! I was honestly surprised with your play when I saw the game you shared earlier this week. It was really convincing because of the confident play and I was expecting this to happen any day. Congratulations with your jump to the 30th position. Just noticed you were close with the Gm score requirement. Looking forward to the video.
Sig was updated when I posted earlier. I bet he prepared the Gm picture well in advance. EDIT: Oh wait... Unless you're refering to this:
Nah, I waited until after the Montreal F1 race before posting the record and updating my sig . Nope, still a n00b.

His previous best could have been even faster if it wasn't for a mistake near the end. Anyway a huge improvement. A few months ago 777 posted on his blog a calculation of the theoretical best time he could achieve, which was 08:43. So he's getting very close to what he thinks is the (current) limit of his abilities.
