I'd like to translate the wiki into Japanese

  1. Hi, I'm new to this forum.
    I'm a big fan of tetris and play it almost every day at tetrisonline. I found the wiki to be very informative. Great Job:D

    I want to share it with Japanese tetris fans who are not used to English. Can I (and maybe other Japanese fans) make Japanese articles in the wiki? Or should I make a new website instead?

    Thank you.

    First of all welcome to tetrisconcept. That is very ambitious of you. You want to translate the entire wiki into Japanese? The more people this information is shared with, the better I say. I wish you good luck if it's okay with the people managing things.

    And I believe you could help out this community by translating some stuff from Japanese to English as well if you're interested. Have a nice stay. ^^

  3. I say feel free to add to or edit our wiki any way you like. :)

    But who has the power to create a namespace for articles in Japanese, especially articles that would have the same title as the corresponding English article?

    I believe the precedent (as I found it over on mediawiki.org) is to use Page_Name/ja for Japanese pages. I tried to port over their languages template but I couldn't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

  6. The initial Languages template requires two other templates, Languages/Lang and Languages/Title. These dependencies further require the ParserFunctions MediaWiki extension, for {{#if}}, {{#ifexist}}, {{#etc}}.

    Alright! All difficulties resolved. You can start translating pages! I'll give you a quick tutorial.

    We now have a language bar template. When you want to translate an English page to Japanese, first edit the English page and add this to the top of the page:
    Code:
    {{Languages}}
    Then, create the page for the Japanese language code, for Main_Page that would be Main_Page/ja. If the page title is correct in Japanese (for instance, Alexey_Pajitnov), you can simply add the language template as shown above to the top of the page, and start translating right away. If the page name is an English term, and can be translated, then make a redirect to the translated page name:
    Code:
    #REDIRECT [[Translated_Page_Name]]
    Then create the page for the translated page name. At the top, include the language bar template, but this time, adding the English page name, and the current language (ja):
    Code:
    {{Languages|Page_Name|ja}}
    That way, the language bar will link to the English version (and any other languages), but not link to itself.

    To give you an idea of how it's done, I've "translated" the Sandbox page:

    English page: http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/Sandbox
    Japanese redirect page: http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/Sandbox/ja
    Japanese page: http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/サンドボックス
