@Rosti LFC: I agree with you that he puts too much emphasis on stacking style which isnt necessarily an indicator of overall skill. Last year it was all about how he would make sure he becomes the best Western player. He was overconfident in his skills at the time. This year is the opposite. He fears everyone who shows some potential. Can you believe he told me not so long ago that I would surpass him in a not so distant future? lol He doesn't brag that much anymore. Not like during the rivalry with jago and DIGITAL last year. Of course he does post the occasional "I will **** you". But that's just cheap talk and he knows this. Amnesias stacking style is elegant and he should be proud of it. But he clearly lacks something that colour_thief and jago have. He wasted precious time complaining and what not instead of figuring out how to improve his game. I have the impression that he's too big a perfectionist when it comes to Tetris. I believe if he played less cleanly and more brutally he would improve. But jago... Surely you're aware that Kevin is extremely good at games in general. He's crazy good at rythm games which require insane reflexes to be good at. It's still surprising that he adapted to Tetris this fast though. I bet he will at least get GM in both TAP Master and Death by the end of next year if his determination doesn't waver.
Ah ! actually my super smart counter attack against kru the psycopath, is in break, because I need an advice from the 2nd best ranked player, he is helping me to make my plan perfect.
Fact is that natural talent and hard work can't stand up against inhuman single-minded addiction and obsession.
I don't know if I'm reading too much into your statement, but I'd like to disagree with the idea that some people are innately "better" at games in general than other people. In some ways, that could even be construed as disrespecting Kevin's hard work by saying "oh, well he's just good at games so whatever". Just a thought. I'd also like to point out that his skill at rhythm games is partially because he's been playing them since he was six years old He also played arcade racing games very competitively for a while.
Yeah, just ask Schala about addiction. Also, I used to play THPS an unhealthy amount until I was 10 or so. Yeah, I'm sure it's not hard work that's making me better. It's basically the fact that I can't rest until I've completely mastered the game.
Sorry for not being clear enough. I know that Kevin puts a lot of time into Tetris. Only wanted to point out that the hard work he put in other games before, would at some point translate in faster progress.
small improvement 500, 3.31.63 pretty happy since I didn't reach 500 for months. pretty disappointed since I had to stop locking at 473 because of a too high stack.
thanks everybody who congratulated me on my gm, also in the IRC channel way back when i did it rude of me not to answer before now, very sorry to have been away for this long, i will get back into it now, it feels possible again edit: and oh, haha, nice job kevinddr, missed it before
AWWWWWW YEAAAAHHH 503 @ ~3:23. Sorry guys, was too busy celebrating to take a screenshot. This has been a long time coming though. I'll remember to get a screenshot for the next one. Also, I was really low at ~480 and then fucked up repeatedly, and almost lost at 499 which would've made me REALLY sad. But I've got it now, check that off the list. ~EI
ANGRY. Into 500 at the bottom, into 600 at the top, hahaha. Whatever, an improvement is an improvement. I'll take it.
