Thought this might be an interesting competition. Something slightly different to those that test speed - something that tests your block stacking.
For those too lazy to look up the activation code, it's LLLLDCBA

If we "catch" the technic, that could be an easy m rank for us..

Given that this competition tests stacking, could you have it scored by level? Or are you basing it on score to weed out players who use a simulator that supports the same big mode but not the scoring system that hasn't been wikified?

I was thinking of scoring it by grade (with time as a tiebreaker), but I'm unsure. Level would test survival, but grade would too, and grade would reward doubles etc more than singles.
Then again, going for Tetrises on this mode is basically the luck of getting an I piece at the exact right time.
I could do it by level, and accept LJ scores, but I'd want the Master speed curve, ARS, the randomiser and also the piece entry inside the field so that players would die under the same circumstances on each.
can you help? i cant get big mode.
when do i have to press "left left left left button4,3,2,1" ?

when do i have to press "left left left left button4,3,2,1" ?
Left, Left, Left, Left, Down, 3, 2, 1
doesnt work... WHEN do i have to press the sequence ? in the menu or during a game? if i press the sequence in the menu, after i press 3 simply a new game is started....
Enter the code at the title screen, before pressing start. Yellow text should appear on the left to confirm correct entry:
this is probably laughable:

DAWN IT IS SO HARD !!!
Sorry rosti, when I saw your lv 175..I though "Haa..poor rosti.."
But after 10 attempts my best is only around 230( I forget the screenshoot)..I have been very surprised by the difficulty of the thing.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
One thing is sure, we need a lot of training to finish one day the SHIRASE.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
In fact, what I imagined about the lines is differents..A Tetris with a I increases by 4 and not by 8.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif
The best way for me to survive is : ONLY THINK SINGLES !!!
EDIT : congratz for the SK edo!
yes that's more harder than we can think,
i've done somthing like 200+ but not very more this morning after a few try...
btw, you can also re-enter the cheat just after the game over display, when push start button is blinking.
As long as you press a button the "push start button" will remain... so even if you fail the code, just try it again and again.

I'll try this eventually, but I've been in a Ti frame of mind recently.

Hehe. I remember showing people this could be done at the Strasbourg meeting. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif Good times.
wow, didn't know that you can re-enter the code after the game over screen, thanks!
another funny thing about big block mode is that SK is awarded for clearing 8 lines with I, instead of several 4- or 6- line clears (big doubles).
EDIT : congratz for the SK edo!
Amnesia, you're mistaken, that was gila, not me! However I have actually managed a gold SK before... I'll post a video on youtube when I find time.

Also that it seems to reward the medal after only one clear, unlike the normal settings for Master.
Does anyone know what the criteria for silver and gold are? Are the medals awarded at 1,3 and 5?
ST: same as normal blocks?
SK: "8-line tetrises" required: Bronze=1, Silver=2, Gold=4.
RE: same as normal blocks. 150 blocks or more -> 70 blocks or less constitutes a "recovery": Bronze=1, Silver=2, Gold=4.
RO: same as normal blocks?
CO: "4-line doubles" or higher required: Bronze=2, Silver=3, Gold=4.
AC: same as normal blocks.

this is probably a sign that i'm not thatr good, but after playing aoubt an hour in big mode i tried reg master mode agian and i did better then i ever did before. i wonder if the big mode helped. if it did it made me see how to use tight spaces instead of me thinking that there's a whole wide open space over to the left or right. i dunno.
same effect for me - i feel some subtle improvements after playing bigmode.
but big mode is a tough one...
rosti: how many trials did it take you to reach 299 ??
there is actually a video on youtube (can't dig up the url now) where a guy completes TGM's BIG MODE and gets Gm; the score/ranks go up crazy fast and then he just plays until he hits level 999...
i tried beating TGM's BIG MODE several months ago. i did it out of curiosity but i used savestates and using them i found out that even if the space is super-small there are still plenty ways of stacking the tetraminos.
the thing i love about BIG MODE is that after playing it for a while, you fire up NORMAL/MASTER mode and the blocks seem *so* small http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
tepples

I've been told that TGM's big mode is even harder, as it's possible to place a piece at a half-block increment, making the lines below it unclearable.

in TGM1 yes, it is much more harder by what you explained. 1 error = Game over
from TAP the horizontal increment is fixed to 2 by 2.
But in TGM-ACE road mode game mode mix, you may encouter garbage issues. In that particular case vertical decalage is possible and lead to tricky situation, but far less difficult than TGM1 horizontal decalage.

rosti: how many trials did it take you to reach 299 ??
Not a huge number. Probably around 10 to 15 runs.
I've had quite a few attempts since then though, and I've not been able to come than close to it.
I love how when you switch to Master after a few Big Block games it feels like micro-Tetris. I don't think it's made me improve on Master, but it's certainly a strange feeling.

Or that your stack is in such a way that it doesn't mess things up. If you had it four rows high (in normal-sized terms) with the same two columns clear for all rows, it'd simply reduce it to a stack two rows high, with the same two columns clear.

One thing is sure, we need a lot of training to finish one day the SHIRASE..
Shirase has 3 previews, and most importantly a hold box. I'd imagine the ability to hold pieces would make it an awful lot easier.

My experience is similar to Taratang's. Though, the extra previews do help a little even when used in a basic, linear, TAP-like fashion. You normally know where to place something before it's on screen, and now you don't have to wait for it to spawn before thinking of the next piece.
i had a lucky run, and also planning with the preview helped ALOT:

I just got 404 in 4:15 now, you guys have to shape up. I had gold SK, and silver CO, it was sweet.
I really love going for tetrises. Because the mode is so limited, you have to play defensively. But, if you focus on remembering the piece history, you can time things so that you are ready for a tetris when the I piece is most likely. If you're not ready for a tetris and you get an I piece, it's best to clear about 3 lines so that you will be ready for the next I piece.
At the slightest hint of danger, it is best to ignore tetrises until you stabilize your screen. But it is still very possible to get some risk-free tetrises. Using this strategy, I usually get silver SK in the first section. Sometimes even gold SK.
It's lots of fun because no other mode stresses the player's randomizer awareness like this.

I recorded it, but with the whole crappy games before..sorry..
How is the leaderboard ordered? What takes priority after grade. Is it mix between level and time or am I missing something? If level takes priority after grade then there as some corrections to be made. Also Caithness is not aligned with the rest of the names. ^^
Feels a little easier than TGM Big Mode, but it's much harder to get higher grades.
