IS IT ENOUGH TO UPLOAD MY FUCKING RECORD !??! http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
This is currently my best performance. I think I will be able to achieve over level 200 soon.
And yes it's good enough to be added to the list! ^^
Finally a performance above level 200. The run just before this game I was stuck at level 199. I couldn't believe it and I forgot to take a screenshot. I'm really glad that just afterwards I managed to do this well.
At the moment I get above level 100 easily and I get around level 150 quite often now.
I still need to work on my stacking. Most of the time I can only clear singles and doubles.
All I can say is that IRS is extremely important if you want to perform well at high gravity. I thank the members who pointed this out. I feel I can now get S4 and maybe even S5 if I keep my cool in TGM.
By the way my best Sudden run in Texmaster is 176 at the moment.
@herc: I almost got you there! ^^
Which is more important for the ranking the level you achieve or the rank you obtain?

At your skill level, it's probably Level, then Rank, then Time. First, you want to survive, then you want to survive and do well, then survive, do well, and go quickly. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
My best is level 700-something, S6, but I don't have the exact level or time offhand. So don't add me until I post a screen.
Ai: Iiiiih, you're probably around my level at 20G now... D';
Just watch my Texmaster Sudden replays I send you and you will notice immediately that your stacking is far superior. So there is still no need for you to worry. ^^

I'm indeed currently only focused on attaining an as high as possible level. Currently the highest level I attained in regular TGM play is near level 500 so I'd be very pleased if I can get near level 400 or 500 in 20G. I will probably need to stack better to get there and I should be able to achieve higher ranks automatically.
And time attack is still a distant dream....

I finished, but didn't hit S4 by 500. Was at 38000-some odd points. That one's actually pretty hard to hit, because the scoring's harsher in 20G mode since the soft drop bonus non-existent.

Not enough to go up in the rankings, but it's a step forward.
I've been focusing on TGM 20G practice this week and this is my best result so far:

Almost S1 which has been a long time target. But as is almost always the case I somehow messed up when I was oh so close to achieve it. By the way almost no manual locking.
Speed is not a big issue any more because of speed traing in LJ and my practice sessions in Death and Shirase. Stacking is improving a little and I'm also a little more comfortable with overhangs and clearing through garbage. But it feels like I'm still missing something important before I can confidently play at 20G. The Japanese page with TGM rotation animations has been a big help. I try to use 3 buttons, but always find myself using 2 buttons after a while when the stack gets a little higher. Hopefully the big 20G breakthrough isn't far away any more. ^^ Anyway with this kind of performance S7 should be doable now, so I will be focussing more on TGM the next few weeks.
Here is another TGM fail from yesterday:
I am cursed there is no doubt about it any more. It really does feels like I fail on purpose. Maybe subconsiously I don't want to succeed...
Pretty bad run though. But I wasn't really pushing myself either. ^^

Do you have a Texmaster replay? Start from 500 and see how far you can go, I was going through the exact same pain you were back in January.
Thanks for looking into it! And don't expect too much! ^^ Most of the games in the replay were played today. Some replays are not there for some reason. My S6 from Normal Mode is nowhere to be found for example and a 500-9XX run from last week isn't there either. Highest I could get is about 850.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/79or8l
My games are all about survival as you will see. Very chaotic to say the least. You will realize very fast why I will need a bit of luck to get S7 in TGM. You will also notice that I don't use manual locking very often and that I still prefer using only 2 buttons.
By the way my Ti style games are played without hold and suck very much!

Some replays are not there for some reason.
Did you press F11 (player 1 game over) too early? The replay will not save if you do. If you know you want the replay saved, don't press F11.
Oh and damn, you survive much longer than me. Dunno if it is that I play more risky etc. Some psychological barrier or something.. And you don't manual lock, like I do.. and you say you don't use all three buttons effectively (like I do). Man, I wanna get better! You also have a better time than me in Lockjaw. Hm. But I should download replays of the LJ record and this Texmaster replay in the previous post. Haven't watched them. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I use only two buttons to rotate; I can't do the L/J triple rotates fast enough at high speed 20G on step reset, but for now, two buttons suffices.
Ai: I think, in general, that you try to fix holes immediately, with the first piece that looks like it might plug one row of a two-row deep hole. This creates lots of little holes, which are a nightmare to go through especially 1) if there's no Hold and 2) if they are in the center.
With regards to specific pieces: L/J triple rotates, I rotations, and autosynchros with the I. That is, this page (http://www13.plala.or.jp/TETRiS_TGM/kouza/7.htm) where it talks about the I a lot.
I prepared some 500-999 replays on Normal, some with locking and some without. You can also watch 2 Gm games, some Special completions, and random other games. (Note that in the games I didn't manually lock, there are a couple more mistakes than usual, because I rotate or move before it locks)
Replays: here (http://defender.arcimpulse.com/TC/Texmaster2009.sav)
Thank you very much for looking into it. ^^
About using only 2 buttons. I've come to understand that even some of the great players only use 2 buttons. Baxter wasn't even aware of a third button. ^^
As I try to stay as low as possible I indeed try to clear lines as fast as possible, which does indeed create a nightmare stack to work with in most cases. I'll try to correct this behaviour and try to study the Japanese pages more thouroughly.
As for the replay you posted I'm unable to watch anything. When I go to the replay page I only see "check sum error" listed everywhere instead of replay files. Other replays seem to work fine though.
Anyway do you think I still have a long way before I can play 20G decently or do I just have to take care of some details?
Some replays are not there for some reason.
Did you press F11 (player 1 game over) too early? The replay will not save if you do. If you know you want the replay saved, don't press F11.
Could be the case but I'm not enterily sure.
I'll edit this post later today or one of the following days and post a sav file with me manual locking. Then you will realize that if you play less risky you would be able to go alot further. ^^

I am using the latest texmaster, which might introduce a checksum error.
Try this, again? My webhost seems to be down.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9k72o2
Your 20G technique was mirroring mine when I transitioned from Ti style to TGM/TAP style. You are getting there, but I would say that one thing to work on is I placement. If there's nowhere else to put one, going vertical in column 5 is rarely bad, since it affords maneuverability on the stack for every piece, including another I (allowing it to go left as needed; just double tap and rotate).
Sorry I didn't realize a newer Texmaster version was available.
I'll be checking out the replays tomorrow. Again thank you for your advice and time! ^^

And today I survived Texmaster Normal 500-885. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif That'd be 385 in TGM1 20G mode. But I didn't play it in TGM1, so it doesn't count as an entry here. ;P But still, that's the highest level I've come to so far. Pretty happy about it. ^^
...but I have played almost no 20G in TGM1 speed, mostly TAP Death speed... but I'm gonna start playing with the TGM1 20G speed more now! The slowness... To learn how to handle 20G better. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

I have not broken 200000 points yet.
http://defender.arcimpulse.com/TC/better.jpg
I manual locked inconsistently for the first 200 levels before playing more safely.
Still no breakthrough unfortunately, but I feel things are getting a little better. I have been manual locking and using all three buttons for a while now. Because of my manual locking training I got better at stacking when not manual locking, but I'm still far from good at it.
My best result while manual locking consistently in Texmaster is 500-919 in 05:40:76 but I only got S4. The main problem for now is that I need a lot of tries to get this far when manual locking so it's too early to try this while playing TGM.
I'm going to take it very easy for a while to sort out some other things. The only thing I may keep playing is lj (I've been able to get 0:50.xx a few times and even breaking my record, but I will only post when I go sub 50 seconds). Hopefully this much needed Tetris break will give me what it takes to push myself even more. I will probably take a 2 week break before returning to it.
Also a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! ^^

Gm, 11:21:19.
Forgot to get a screenshot since it said game over and went to the title screen. grr.
I finally managed to complete the game when starting from level 500 in Texmaster Normal mode. It was a very crappy game... Only S6 and the time was 07:09:01. I need to do it at least 30 seconds faster now in order to meet the GM 13:30 requirement in TGM. Stacking has improved a little since I started trying manual locking, but I still can't get a lot of tetrises.
My most recent Texmaster save file with my recent 20G practice can be found here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/bjulgj). You can also watch my 20G S7 game. There is one game included where I tried to manual lock consistently all the way (500-854 in 04:39:35).
Still not ready for GM in TGM, but I can aim for S8 or S9 now if try seriously and long enough.

Texmaster2009.sav (http://imageshack.us/default.htm)
Picked up 20G practice again after a 10 days break. I'm finally starting to manual lock better. This may sound silly, but I think I should thank Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura: Eternal Heart for forcing me to manual lock (sonic drop) to get fast times. Managed to improve almost a minute from my last best time.
I have a little more control over the pieces now, but I still need to improve considerably to be consistent. Stacking for tetrises is only possible in the beginning at the moment and using the 3 buttons is still a pain. Actually I have been neglected using all buttons lately.

The best 20G run I ever had so far. It seemed like I could go on forever. But then suddenly I lose control and everything falls apart really fast. And the speed was very good. I could have gone sub 12 minutes with S7/S8 if I managed to reach the end. It's not like I panicked or anything and I wasn't aware of my grade, but it's a mental blow to see I was so close to S7.

Depends. If I'm pushing for time, I tend to be a lot closer to the limit, and I make more mistakes so finish fewer games. I'm also living more dangerously by trying to keep as close to the top as possible, so I get killed by overstacking quite a lot as well.
On the other hand, if I just want to get Gm and a super-fast time is less than an issue, I can afford to keep it a lot cleaner and concentrate on maintaining control of the stack until the finish. If I'm playing at 90-100% of my possible speed, I'll usually die well before 999, but if I want to finish I can afford to play at maybe 80%, and be much more relaxed, and I'll still get Gm.
The ability to complete games on demand is more the ability to complete games without having to ever exert yourself.

I do find getting TGM1 20G Gm to be a great training excercise for modes in other TGM's, though. It just takes a ton of patience to do it.

You are very close,it seems you may get it in a few days with little effort...
It will take a little longer than that. I play short sessions every now and then and I get easily frustrated by my inconsistent 20G play. Some days I play like a pro and other days I wonder if I truly am at GM level. Also during the days I play like a pro I easily lose focus suddenly and mess up very quickly.
I think I'll post a video of my 20G play in the near future. Maybe someone can analyze it. I'm definitely doing a lot of things wrong.
Still a lot to learn I'm afraid. But I'll make sure I get the grade before the end of the year. ^^

Damn Ai, you've had a great weekend for records. Congrats!
Thanks! I wasn't even sure that I was on track for GM. I got S4 just as I cleared lines to get over level 500. So I was a little surprised at the end.
Clearly playing a little longer once in a while helps a lot. ^^ Played close to 5 hours of TGM yesterday. Initially I was going to play TAP Master, but that will be for another time. These last 6 months have been great. Getting that first S9 in TGM was the pivotal point.

Wow great!! The players that got under 11 minutes in this mode are also sub 11 minutes in TGM.
About 05:25 per half on average. You can probably clear 500 levels even faster in a very good run. Which means that a solid sub 20G time under 05:50 could get you close to 11 minutes. ^^

What did happen? with 150k+ you have largely the ability to GM more often here.
(Personally i quit after 300 or 500 if conditions are not met; it still happens!)
Just surviving in 20G isn't a big problem (on some days), but clean 20G stacking for tetrises is far from easy. Especially when I try to play fast.
When I meet the early Gm conditions I usually start stressing and mess up well before the end. On the other hand in the game above I didn't get S4 at level 500 and kept playing on with a relaxed feeling with a rather good result. I need to play more frequently to be more confident.

C'mon. You're a Death Gm. Unless you mean you fall asleep at the helm of TGM1 (in which case I wouldn't quite blame you). Due to our methods of play for TGM1, I tend to make lots of off-by-one DAS misdrops and ragequit. Which is why my improvement in that game is so so slow.

I saw the video earlier this week. Really crazy. I thought his best 20G section time was somewhere around 48 seconds. Maybe it's possible to get a time under 45 seconds if he stacks really high before commencing one of the later 20G sections. Well under 08:30 in 20G mode should be possible too seeing this. Geeez. My best is ~56.9 seconds, usually in the first section (taken from Texmaster, starting from Lv. 500). What's the theoretical TAS speed?
In Texmaster Normal 20G my best time starting from the 500-600 section is 57.81 and my fastest 20G section ever is 56.03 (600-700). I haven't been able to play at that speed recently. Both the above times are from 6 months ago.
EDIT:
I watched the video again and 777 clears 7 consecutive tetrises. A perfect section! ^^
red i can work out the theoretical tas speed just give me a few minutes
edit:
every piece advances the level by 1 + 2/5
every piece takes 30 frames of ARE
every tenth piece takes an extra 41 frames
so each piece averages to 34.1 frames of waiting
assume each piece takes an average of 5 frames to place
so 1 piece = 39.1 frames
one section = 100 levels = 71.43 pieces = 2792.86 frames = 00:46:55
one game = 999 levels = 713.57 pieces = 27900.64 frames = 7:45:11

Very nice stuff Edo! What's your best 500-999 (500 levels time attack)? Under 04:35? ^^My fastest first half in 20G is only about 4:45, which is about the same as what the pros do without 20G. Almost invariably, the first half is much slower (e.g. by 10 seconds) than the second half, mainly because you start with an empty playfield, build up to half-full by 500, and then clear down to finish low at 999.
EDIT: Oops, I just realised that I completely misread your question! It's hard to say what my fastest second half is, although I would guess that it's somewhere between 4:35 and 4:40, definitely not faster than 4:35.

Regarding your normal time and your 20G time, I would say you do not manual lock, right? Manlock gave me (and still gives me) a hard time to get used with, but it's a sine qua non condition to get the GM grade, and feel more comfortable with the game. It takes time to be able to play all the game long while manlocking but your stacking skills seem pretty good as you cleared the game several time in a very short period, so you just have to go faster now.
EIHoppe
01-31-2012, 02:26 AM
Yeah, manual locking is vital for a good enough time for GM--and the faster you can push it the better. You can hit 999, though, which is a major step in the right direction. Keep focusing on clearing tetrises and keep pushing the speed.
Also, Amnesia, I'm pretty sure the 15 minute limit only started in TGM2. Anyone else can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

TGM has no hard limits, but there is a point at which it turns the game speed up a lot if I remember correctly (effectively, it tries to kill-screen you).
It definitely exists in the later games, I don't remember if it is in TGM1.
Kitaru
01-31-2012, 07:17 AM
I don't think TGM1 has it. TGM2 and 3 jump the speed up to a much later section to keep you from stalling indefinitely.
cyberguile

It doesn't exist in tgm1 since 777 did a 999 in 45 minutes

Thank you for the advice.
I started manual locking today and it almost blows my mind for now.
I can survive until level 1xx max and the level 100 times suggest that I can achieve about 1:20 per 100 levels...still A LOT of improvement needed.
I think have to start turning off the TV and be focused whilst playing ;)

Before getting GM, I first cleared the game without manlocking at all, and I was like : "well, it's just a matter of time now, let's get used with speed and it shouldn't take too much time".
I was totally wrong.
It took me 3 months to get used with it and get the GM grade, even though I still feel difficult the sub-20G section (maybe more than the 20G). But, as I was told when facing the same problem than you, once you got used to it, it becomes a second nature and you cannot play without manlocking anymore :). Just keep on training and try to keep concentrated all the game long.
