My mom is rather good at the old "Tetris for Windows". I remember when she worked at a newspaper, she used to stay over after work to play.

The pity is that the score counter wraps at 32000 something (32768?), becoming -32768 counting down to zero, before wrapping again. This makes the highscorelist kind of screwed, so counting lines would probably be the best.

Anyway it is kind of cool to watch her play, I get my butt handed back to me pretty fast in that game. It's not nearly as fast as 20G, but with the limited rules of rotation (only one direction) and the fact that you can't do basically any rotation tricks at all, it is a very annoying game. It is also a bit unforgiving, you don't have much time to play around with a piece touching the stack.

My mom says she'd play Texmaster with me if she could see (she's blind). She really likes Texmaster's sounds and music (she hates the entry sounds in the official TGM series), and enjoys sitting next to me when I play.

that's funny you said that because i remember this one guy on xbox live tetris worlds who always would curse and curse when his Z would lock up sometimes. i told him that if he used clockwise rotation too, it would fix that problem, and he told me tetris shouldn't be rocket science and that he should be able to rotate it.

Unless my memory is completely wrong, I think the game recognizes the mirrored secret grade pattern.

That happened to my step mum, rather sadly. She managed to flip open my DS and turn it on all by herself, but didn't understand what Tetris meant so she didn't know which screen to look at. I assumed she was kidding at first, because it's hard to believe that there's still anyone in the first world that hasn't heard of Tetris, but apparently there are still a few people out there. She didn't even seem to know who Mario was, and supposedly more Canadians can recognize Mario than our prime minister.

It would have included travel to Japan, at least until the Fanta Grape project brought Ti to Seattle.

That one sort of fell flat when I thought about it. For someone still learning to survive 100 lines at comparatively low gravity, dropping 40 I pieces takes more significantly more skill than clearing 40 lines, which uses close to 15 of these pieces.

Manuals for Tetris games before Tetris Worlds didn't specify letter names for the pieces. So I can see how people might be tempted to come up with their own names (e.g. "gun" for J/L, "snake" for S/Z).

So I can see how people might be tempted to come up with their own names (e.g. "gun" for J/L, "snake" for S/Z).The people I play Blokus with alternate between letter/number descriptions ("the 5 I," etc.) and creative names ("the [Hershey] bar," "the hook," "the squiggle," etc.).
