I'm sure you get asked this all the time but I failed to find any helpful information via searching, so I apologise for this topic. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
I'm basically looking for a decent version of tetris for mac (OS X 10.4.11 is what I am running). http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif Heboris was a version that has been recommended to me, but I can't for the life of me work out how to download it and get it to work. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
All help will be greatly appreciated. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif Thanks in advance.

Lockjaw and Heboris are your two best bets. Your gonna have to be a little techy to get lockjaw to compile, unless its changed since i had it.

I'm utterly incompetent when it comes to computer related stuff, so I guess Heboris would be the smarter choice. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
How do I go about downloading and installing Heboris?

It's unfortunate that Texmaster requires 10.5.
As for Heboris, download the SDL version (hebo0019.zip) from the Heboris Uploader (http://hebo.game-host.org/index.html?1214457433). I'm not sure how to get it working though so perhaps someone else can help.

If you want Tetris®, Tetris Zone was on Mac even before it was on Windows.

Tetris Zone looks really good - I'm downloading it now. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
Does anyone know how to get Heboris to work?
Tetris Zone is all good.
You can get Lockjaw running via a GBA emulator which is pretty cool.

I've downloaded Quinn, and it seems pretty good. The only problem is that sometimes it lags terribly - both whilst playing online and offline. Why is this, and how can I prevent it? It even happens when no other applications are being run on my computer, so I have no idea why is lags so much. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

even if you're not running 10.5, this advice Report gave on running Texmaster on Mac might be useful:
For Mac OSX 10.5 users:
Requires SDL runtime libraries
http://www.libsdl.org/ (http://www.libsdl.org/default.htm)
Mac OS X:
SDL-1.2.13.dmg
- Leopard
- xcode 3.0
- SDL 1.2.13

If you've got an Intel Mac, it shouldn't matter whether you're running Tiger or Leopard, since the Windows version of Texmaster runs fine in Darwine. There is a Mac version of of Heboris, but it's not on the uploader any more, and I can't remember who was hosting the mirror because that topic was removed from the forum. Heboris isn't against the forum rules now, is it?
Edit: It was Lee_N: nihon.se/HeborisUEMac20071123.zip And if you still have a PowerPC Mac, don't fret. This version of Heboris ran faster on my 1GHz G4 than it does on my 2GHz Core 2 Duo.

I downloaded Heboris from that link, and ended up with this:

In the exe folder are two applications: Heboris_OpenGL.app and Heboris_SDL.app
They both open fine, but all they do is play demos over and over. It says 'push start button' but I do not know what the start button is... http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
I've looked over the english read me txt document but it doesn't seem to help much.

Your start button is the same as your A button, which should be Z. If it isn't Z, delete CONFIG.SAV before starting Heboris*.app
The default keys should be Arrows, ZXC, Spacebar. Q is quit and W is pause.

Okay, it seems to be working okay now. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
But when I clear lines, there's a long delay while the graphics show (really long delay). Afterwards it's absolutely fine again, until I clear more lines. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
Also, what's the difference between Heboris_OpenGL and Heboris_SDL?

You can turn off the line clear effects if you want, but switching to the OpenGL build should solve the problem of slow particle effects as well.

But when I clear lines, there's a long delay while the graphics show (really long delay).
How long? Is this delay between half a second and 1 second? If so, that's usual. Or is it even longer than the 1.5 second delay of the Game Boy version?

What he is probably referring to is a slowdown in the clear animation. I've experienced this before; the particle effects make the game slow to a crawl momentarily. The solution I found was to switch over the the OGL build.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. I'm not sure what you mean by the OGL build, but I experience this problem on both Heboris versions.
How can I disable the line-clear effects?
EDIT: Hmmm... now it also seems to crash. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif The music cuts out and then a few moments later the whole application crashes. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

This is caused by a problem in the MIDI playback. It always happens at the same time, when the midi file gets to the end and tries to loop. The solution is to download EIHoppe's MP3 soundpack and switch to MP3 for the background music. Or just have no BGM.
I personally find the SDL version to run more smoothly than the OpenGL one. You might want to try a lower resolution, or full screen. I can't quite remember how I got the slowdown during line clear animations to stop, but there are some options in heboris.ini labeled "faster" and "slower", so you might want to try messing with them.

I altered some of the settings in the heboris.ini and it seems to have solved the lag problem. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
It's still crashing though, because of the MIDI playback problem that you mentioned. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif From where can I download ElHoppe's MP3 soundpack? I can't find any information on it from searching.
Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Nevermind, I worked out how to disable the background music myself.
Everything's working fine now. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
Although I cannot for the life of me work out what the 'hold' button is? http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif I've gathered that Q is leave game, W is pause, Z X C are rotation keys and the direction keys control movement. But what is hold? http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Hold is set to 2 by default, but if I were you I'd change it to Spacebar in the input settings.
As for the soundpack, it seems like all sorts of threads have gone missing from the forum. How odd.

Where are the input settings?
If you mean the settings>input in the actual game, I can't see anything to do with key configuration?
I've found a file called 'keyconf.def' but I can't open it. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

When you go to the Settings menu from the title screen, you have to press up, then left, then down. Then you'll be able to configure the keyboard input for Player one.
I just tried to change my Heboris input settings to my new preferred control style, with hold on semicolon, but it seems that the game has semicolon hardcoded to pause as well as W.

I'm working on a new version of my soundpack mostly for Texmaster, but I could include instructions as to how to get it working with Heboris if there's demand.
I make no guarantees it'll be done in any reasonable timeframe, though. My muse is pretty fickle and does as it damn well pleases. =P

some people probably know about this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11HpWJ_-r30
it looks like some kind of hidden tetris game for Mac OS-X or any UNIX OS.
Not all Unix variants ship with Emacs by default.
