Hello 20g beasts, I have some questions about Sudden Ti. What are the requirements to break 500? My time is ~3min most of the times (avg 35'') and I can't do more than 5 tetrises. Is it the time, the tetrises or both of them the problem?
As for the Special Ti there are so many Ms I am confused. Can somebody link me to see what each grade means?
Also, what is the official name of those 2 games? Are they both TGM2? Thank you :)

For Sudden Ti you have to get to 500 in 2:28 or less, amount of tetrises doesn't matter. As for Special Ti you could check the wiki entry (http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/Tetris_The_Grand_Master_3_Terror-Instinct#Grade_Recognition_System), in this case it is important that you tetris a lot, especially late in the game. Both modes are from TGM3 (Ti), they're Master and Shirase, respectively.

If you're using World rule, the 500 time cut-off should be 3:03. Unfortunately, I think Texmaster just uses the Classic rule cut-off of 2:28 for both Classic and World. Also, another word of warning: Texmaster's implementation of SRS (aka World) isn't accurate.

Regarding grading, if you just want the information, then read the wiki page that clincher linked to. My personal advice though, would be to forget about grading entirely, and just focus on survival, followed by time-attack once you can reach 999 reliably. The grading in TGM3 is a bit wonky, and doesn't really give a good measure of a player's progress through the game.

Heboris UE was produced before there were accurately recorded frame timings for TGM3. Texmaster is closer to the real thing.

This is not only the garbage rule. I could bet on my life, that there are many direct feelable differences with the lock delay and DAS charging rules.
I have been pushing myself to ultimate limites recently on SHIRASE, I tried EVERY mental way to survive at SHIRASE 600, that was almost impossible, even in thinking that I was playing for saving my life, IMPOSSIBLE to resist over 900-1000...

I just try one time on sudden ti, the game was DIFFERENT, I was even not awaken, I was not "fresh", I was not in a prepared intensive spirit, I was more like " ah ?.. That move passed ?:confused: ok let's continu..."
Considering that it was my 1st attempts, I was not even able to stack correctly for 000-300, making a ton of misdrop because of the timing difference.

What I heard is that a computer doesn't exactly emulate 60 fps (it works by refreshing), and is therefore more lenient with inputs. That would be why just frame input on console > just frame input on an emulator. That's the same story for portable consoles, as I was told.

So that would explain the whole thing.

The pb doesn't come from that, it is due to the presence of some "dead frame" during ARE which prevent to charge the DAS on the real game, and texmaster doesn't repliacate exactely this behavior.

At SHIRASE 600 and more, this difference become a real ponderant disavantage.

Then (please erase my post if what I say is too tandancious), the TI we have on PC is known for having an input lag around 3-4 fr, the lock delay is at 12 fr at SHIRASE 600, it is like 25% of time you don't have for moving the tetrimino.

Unlike some of the earlier and later grades, S2 and S3 are only separated by one internal grade. That triple you got will have helped massively.

The input lag difference is huge, it asks me a lot of effort to pass 1000 in SHIRASE and I can do it quietly on sudden ti.

I've been doing Special Ti by grade, level of death, then time. If you think time of death first makes more sense, it'd be easy to change.

Nah, level of death makes more sense I think considering that it encourages survival. If you think about it, the best strategy within a grade tier would be getting the best grade you're capable of and then killing yourself as quickly as possible... Not that anyone would pass up an opportunity to shoot for another grade, but it does sort of highlight the problem with using this as a secondary ranking metric.

Instead of Ti I'm playing TAP with hold, mostly disregarding the three previews and using unnecessary overhangs :|
Stacking flat and with foresight seems to be the key to Ti.

Apart from sudden ti I played some special ti too and achieved M5 twice.
In my 2nd game I cut 7sec, made 1 more tetris, got a cool for the first time (it was made in 300-400 section because of a combo) and played the end roll (I didn't notice its existence before).
Much(?) better game but grade was the same!:mad:

Lately I have been too pretencious in saying that I was able to manlock at 500-1000 with 3 tetrises per sections at least..I said that after you know..This kind of session where you just think that you can domine the world, you play your best level, breaking 100% of the time lv 1000, but you actually NEVER do a record this day..:mad:

I like your speed at 300, but I feel like you should've played this way since the very beginning instead of aiming for the tetrises (the thing I was debating with people concerning shirase)

I also think that not using hold can be good for your speed. I just noticed you did the second section just fine barely using hold, and had a section 2 seconds slower right after this, using the hold system a lot.

But you're doing terrific! Congratz, the torikan should only be a matter of time for you, in my humble opinion.

Truth is, I don't really "aim for tetrises", it's just my standard way to play. The reason why 300+ is so messy is because locking that speed feels pretty harsh and I leave out "risky" moves.

I agree with you, I'm faster when I'm not using hold, and I can manage to get to 500 without using hold at all. However, I consider it a big weakness that my hold-skill is so poor. My strategy right now is to have an I in the hold box most of the time as a back-up plan, which I only use to avoid holes or to keep the stack stable. Holding other pieces slows me down (as you noticed) and messes with me sometimes (e. g. next/hold-confusion, IHS + IRS, etc.). In fact, that might be the reason why I mainly tetris, it minimizes my hold usage. I think that'll get better by playing more SpecialTi though.

Anyways, thanks for the motivation :)

Yeah, more Special TI, and if you can manage to do it, I would recommend you use big mode a lot. It clearly helped me using hold better.

But I hear you, using hold at this speed can be pretty painful sometimes. Keep stacking!

Yeah, I looked it up a little bit more. Turns out I went to the next section without letting the game showing me the COOL (I think it was supposed to show it at level ~195, but I went from 194 to 200).

The result is that the game behaves weird but kinda like as if I got the COOL. However, it does not count for the final grade.
