Nice job! And don't worry about posting a new record so early. At that stage any improvement is a good reason to submit again. ^^

Hehe, I wanted to brake 55 seconds first, before posting...and I did it after I had changed my configuration:
Hard drop = DOWN instead of UP. Feels much better for me at 40 lines. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Nice. Just a little more and you will be sub 50 seconds. ^^

ps: Ai, you can write that it's played with keyboard ^^
Actually I never updated that section of the leaderboards before. Should I just assume that if no input method is mentioned that the player plays with keyboard?

Well what can I say. It's not like I don't want to go under 50 seconds. I haven't really been motivated to play purely for speed lately though. It all started when I got 00:50:01. I can still get around 51 seconds when I really try, but that seems to be the limit for now. I will practice more in the near future to go sub 50 seconds. I will do it this month I promise!

Just broke my record while practicing to play with the option "Shadow: Off, hide falling piece too".
I went from 100 TPM to 120 TPM by forcing myself to play Sudden @ level 300 and Sudden Ti. Trying to manual lock all the time also seems to have improved my speed. I will see if practicing like you do can help me. I'm also interested in how other top players practice to improve their speed. Do you play regularly? And do you use specific options or special programs for your training?

Nice games Kitaru and Jan! Hopefully you will both go under 40 seconds soon! ^^

I vote for a feature Deniax thought up. It's called the "instant win button."
That would be cool. ^^

Would the instant win button be based on the Playing forever (http://www.tetrisconcept.com/wiki/index.php?title=Playing_forever) pattern?

No, as rated multiplayer isn't 7-bag.

You can bind the instant win button to any key, but by default it's set to the comma key. It's functionality works as follows: press the instant win button, the game ends instantly, and you are chosen as the winner. Pretty nifty idea if you ask me.

My thinking is that it could add so much more to the depth of the game, much like T-Spins! I've been trying to work out a theoretical strategy. I think maybe the optimal time to use the instant win button is either when you think you may lose, or as soon as possible. Even if you think you'll win, you may want to use it just in case you think the opponent may attempt it. (Are you catching on to the mind games this function will create? Crazy!)

I got sub 50 seconds yesterday with a time of 0:49.41 if I remember correctly. Actually I went under 50 seconds on 3 occasions in about 15 minutes. Even got over 127 TPM once.

So there you have it. I kept my promise Kevcel. ^^ I'll post my record and replay later today.

I feel that while playing on Blockbox I learned to push myself again till it hurts. Masereti thanks for the games the other day. Seeing him play with a TPM over 240 motivated me to just go for it. That's when for the first time I started playing with a TPM over 130 and being somewhat in control.

Yeah that's definitely a huge improvement. You're also jumping quite a few places on the leaderboard. ^^

Nice job improving so much so fast.

Triple posting is no problem, especially in this case! I've done it before too. ;-) A way of preventing double posting is by copying the contents of your previous post and delete the post. Afterwards you can copy the contents of the post again in a new post and add an edit with the new contents. This way you don't double post and you bump the thread back to the top. Of course you don't have to do this. I'm just telling you so you know. Could be helpful in some special cases. ^^

It looks like you need to play a bit of Drill Attack. Given the recent interest in multiplayer with Tnet-style pure random garbage, I'm still confused as to why Corrosive or somebody hasn't put up a leaderboard for that mode yet.

It's because Blockbox implements exactly the same thing with replays and is for the most part ghett0-proofed.

Kevin means that Blockbox has a mode just like LJ drill attack, but with easily accessible replays and cheater-proof.

Also, there is a difference between the garbage systems. In Blockbox the hole is always on a different place, in Lockjaw there is the possibility to get quite non-random garbage if you're lucky, like in the demo i attached.

I know that it's generally not allowed for all other leaderboards, but what are people's thoughts on allowing Blockbox 40 lines scores to be added to this leaderboard alongside the Lockjaw ones?

Considering the whole point of lockjaw 40 lines was the sort of "how fast can you possibly play without any game-imposed restrictions?", I don't think it'd necessarily be outside of the spirit of the leaderboard.

I wouldn't mind at all, but first I need to know if there is strong support for this. Also DIGITAL is the owner of this thread and I think he should ultimately have the last word.

Not long ago I tried to add the 40 lines challenge to kotetsu213's [ALL] 100 Lines Open Challenge (http://www.tetrisconcept.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=865) thread (that I acquired for a short while) so as to give everyone a chance to post their fastest time in any program under any condition. But I failed to lure people to submit their records so I returned the thread back to kotetsu213 in its original state. Maybe this will have more success.

I agree it's in the spirit of the thread to allow scores from any tetris game that has a 40 line mode here, because no one should be able to beat the best lockjaw score, with idealized settings and insta shift macros.

They can easily, because Blockbox 40 lines also gives the same 40 lines settings with instant shift and the like. The difference for me is that the menus are far more intuitive and less bloated with settings I'll never use, and graphically it's also far better and that actually allows me to play more quickly. Plus I find it far more fun.

BlockBox also has true zero delays, whereas the lowest line clear LockJaw can provide is 1 frame.

It'd be at the discretion of the designer to choose standard and "advanced" settings menus, which is what Blockbox does.

Good point.

Until lockjaw can be fixed to allow the 1 frame of delay to be removed, the ideal blockbox performance is faster than the idea lockjaw performance...

My theory was that the perfect lockjaw performance couldn't be beaten on any other program.

That's seriously the difference that makes you choose one game over another? Personally, gameplay takes number one priority for me. I would prefer to play on Lockjaw over BB when going for a personal record since I can play at full screen in LJ as well as make my own minimalist theme. It's a small difference, but every little bit counts.

Your definition of gameplay must be different from from mine, then. The reason I switched to Hebo a while back was specifically to get away from the tiny delays, and after playing for a while it felt much more fluid than LJ with the same settings on both games. That's why when I started playing BB I haven't looked back.

My eyes are surprisingly fussy to minor changes in graphical detail. Maybe if I fiddled around with skins I could find a Lockjaw equivalent, but Blockbox already comes the way I want it. And it just feels faster.

Plus, in Blockbox I'll play 40 lines just to kill time between multiplayer games or something, meanwhile in LJ it's pretty much the only mode I feel is worth bothering with.

Our definitions of "gameplay" are likely the same, but our personal preferences are different for sure. For example, Heboris has always lacked 9G autorepeat (instant), which is why I'd never play that for a personal record. Also, keep in mind that the same value of DAS for two different games can render different speeds depending on how it's computed.

One last thing, I hear offline and non-java are good things when it comes to lag and stuff like that. Don't get me wrong, I love BB. But I figured the devil's advocate was due in this discussion.

Offline and non-java is a saving grace for people who have old computers, I am lucky to have a new one, but earlier this year when I was using a 6+year old computer I could not use BB to try to set any sort of records. Lockjaw is very nice for people who have internet problems or old computers.

There's no point in arguing which program is better. Everyone has other preferences. I haven't played 40 lines on BlockBox enough to say whether it's faster or not, but it seems like a number of people clearly play faster on BB. Maybe Jono could get under 25 seconds on BB? And LJ does look great if you customize it with skins. I use the TGM pack and other skins by Rich Nagel to make playing more enjoyable.

So should I start accepting BB (and Heboris?) 40 lines times? If so will adding one column to indicate what program is being used be enough or are other changes to the leaderboard format necessary? I don't know whether all the information currently used on the leaderboard is freely availably in BB and Heboris. But that's not that important I presume.

Hi everyone

Lockjaw- my best 40 lines is 1:08.91 (91.41 per minute)
However if blockbox is allowed, I have got a 1:00 as Paul676 (it is in the 40 line record page on Blockbox with a video)

By the way, am I the only one not to (I think this is the right terminology) stack? By this, I mean that for sprint, I don't stack tetriminoes then clear 4 at a time, but just get 1s even?

Thanks, Paul

In a leaderboard ordered by time to make 40 lines and games that use zero or near-zero line clear delay (like LJ/BB), it's perfectly fine to make garbage and clear it out with singles if that's your style of playing. Players have to drill through the last five or so lines anyway. But you will need to learn to stack, or you'll never break any records for points in 3 minutes.

Welcome Paul676! You chose the right place for your first posts. ^^

It would be very helpful if you posted the info from the lj-scores.txt. If you don't have it anymore I'll just use the data you provided earlier. ;-) And you're using good strategies for both challenges. I too play faster when clearing lines as fast as possible in 40 lines. Trying to keep stacking for tetrises slows me down after a while.

If I were you, I'd leave this topic the way it is now and create another topic: ''[ALL GAMES]Best 40 lines'' or something like this.
I could create a new thread where times from all programs are accepted, but it doesn't have to be done by me. Even though I'd love to do it. ^^ Also it seems like some members feel that this thread is the best place to post best times. The thread attracts the fastest players and it's very popular.

I'm not taking the initiative here as I don't feel it's right for me to do so. I'll just wait and see what the mods decide or maybe someone should create a poll in the general forum.

The faster ARS players use Rhytm 20G instead of Rhythm 0G. I haven't really played using those speedcurves so I don't really know about the details.

I haven't really played using those speedcurves so I don't really know about the details.
Rhythm 0G drops and locks your piece when you're out of pace, and Rhythm 20G just locks your piece.

Uh oh. Looks like I'll have to defend my second-place ARS record soon. I stopped playing lockjaw ever since one of the newer versions of wine slowed down by 4-5 seconds when the blocks are disappearing after a game is completed.

EDIT: Looks like the new version added one registry key that ended up slowing down the game. I deleted that and now it runs just peachy.

It's bad indeed. I can't even remember when I last played. Worse... I don't even think I played this year at all. Any excuses? Well the plan is to improve my time when I start playing Ti clones...

Anyway congrats with your new record Kitaru and good luck reaching 3TPS. ^^

O_O I was fearing the day when Kitaru overtakes me...I remember about a month ago I was playing this like crazy in order to widen the gap(i only managed a .02 second decrease in time). If i weren't obsessed with NetHack/Dwarf Fortress right now, I'd play a bit more Tetris...

Holy smokes! You were blazing! That could have been 30~31 seconds easy. You're going to be edging up on the TPM needed to join the sub-30 club soon enough. Congratulations! :D

A bravo at the end. Now, that's something that doesn't happen very often.

Thanks for updating your score over here. Still haven't updated the leaderboards with the times and scores from HD. Anyway great progress.

I managed about one sub 35 completion per 100 attempts. I think I just got lucky with this... 99% the time I played way too fast and was never able to even downstack through all the holes i made. Moreover, I tried playing some SuddenTI after all this 40 lines training, and man my stacking was SO BAD. SO BAD. But at least now I can stop playing this accursed mode!

I'm gonna be away for a few days. It will give me time to recover from this 40 line binge.

Nice times! I added the records posted on HD. One of the following weeks I'll merge the [Lockjaw] 40 lines leaderboard and the [ALL GAMES] Best 40 lines (http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/showthread.html?t=1005) leaderboard. ^^

Is it possible to play with the classic rules ? I mean to have pieces who fall like usually. It's really disturbing to have the T or L who starts to fall diffrently :(

Ai

Are you talking about initial piece orientation? You mean you want to play using ARS instead of SRS? If so go to Options, choose 40 lines or any of the other modes you want to customize, rotate twice to get to page 3/8 (or keep pressing down) where you will find the option Rotation System.
