That's exactly why I'm asking this a few months before the start:
people have enough time to think about it; this will pretend quick impulses of players, who say one week before the start: ''Yes, I will participate''...but who finds out that they don't have the time to play during the tourney and then cancel.
I'd rather have a small group of players who definetely have the time and are ''positively agressive'' about this tourney, than many players who might lose interest quickly.

I don't know the exact format yet; the format can only be decided when I exactly know how many players will join; I will see that in a few months.
I can tell: Knockout is the best format for a tournament like this, so the end of this tournament will certainly be knockout; but knockout can only be done when there are 2^n [8,16,32 etc.] players...the chance that there will be exactly this number of players is extremely small, thus:

The tourney will consist of 2 parts:
I) Group stage, or something like that.
II) Knockout

I think I would like to enter the tournament. I have been playing more TDS since I no longer have a keyboard that can play Lockjaw well. I am under maybe still though. i would only recommend buying that if you're running Windows XP. the device is not supported by Nintendo anymore. the software was last updated at the end of last year and it worked on Vista, but as Vista is continually updated there's no guarantee of future compatibility. i got it to work on Windows 2000 with a little effort. it may be difficult or impossible to use it on Mac or Linux.

if anyone has a router that isn't officially supported for use with Nintendo products, it might be useful to google your router model and "Nintendo WFC". i was unable to connect through my D-Link router, but after changing the router's transmission rate it works great, and this doesn't seem to have any negative impact on my internet connection. i would exhaust the possibility of using what you have before spending any money.

if you've tried everything and nothing works, i think it would be a good idea to buy a router that's gamer-tested and recommended for use with an array of gaming systems (while taking connectivity and reliability into account). this would be a good long-term solution.

I am not sure how others fair with this, but the one that I owned kept getting very hot and was extremely unreliable. It had a good run at one point, but for the most part it was nothing but problems for me. I might have just received a defective one, but it really didn't seem to work out too well.

Games will be played in ***2p mode. Handicap = 2. That means you may not agree with each other to use another handicap.
***There is 1 exception, see below.

For group stage, people will have 2 weeks to finish their matches.
If a person doesn't finish all his matches, then all his games are considered as a 0-15 lose.

--After group stage, there will be elimination rounds, rules are:

For each elimination round, people will have 1 week to finish their match.

i think the screen was still working when we played, but i had to wiggle it sometimes. now the screen is just white. i should mention i've gotten 1000s of hours of use out of it, and dropped it a few times, so it's hardly new.

You know that, when you play against somebody with friendcodes, you have to choose a ''handicap'' [1,2,3,4 or 5]before the match starts?
Well, the highest handicap gives the most scrappiest garbage and let the blocks fall faster than a lower handicap.
I've chosen that everybody must choose 2, because the garbage at handicap 1 is too tidy, garbage at handicap 3 is too scrappy.
[And if you play tds often, then you know that handicap 2 is some sort of well accepted standard].

It is clearly that the 5-2 score wasn't meant to be part of the match, which make the score 10-3.
So this match officially didn't finish, due to a mistake by G-Fish.
I strongly recommend the following if you both have the time[#1 has the highest priority, then #2]:

1) Play a re-match. The 10-3 score doesn't count anymore.
2) Continue the match with a 10-3 score.

PROLOGUE
I've already had the idea for this Tournament months ago. It started with a ''interest check'' topic at tc.com...good old memories. Since there was enough interest, I decided to carry on with the idea. The keyword of this Tournament was FUN. I've always stressed that commucation would be very important and that IRC could be usefull for this purpose. I've said that players must take initiative to contact each other and arrange something; not only close before the deadline, but well on time. It's not fun when you're facing an opponent who doesn't seem to take any initiative or is almost nver online.
There have been situations when I personally had to insist people on playing their matches against their opponents. Many times with success, but sometimes also without it. I even had to kick some people out!
I'm tired of putting energy into this. It might have been my own fault by not stressing this too much during the Tournament.
I've decided to be stricter now, so that those who are still in this Tournament, won't be facing this kind of problems.
It's time for measurements.

It took a while, so then I begin losing hope that he would respond...but 3 days later: I did get a respond. TIME TO MAKE DECISIONS

A)
t-block is kicked from this Tournament. It was a very hard decision for me, because I know he's a strong player. I've thought about it carefully and even had doubts about it, because I somehow do have the feeling that he's trying his best to play. But I came to the conclusion that it just doesn't work out. Maybe trying your best isn't enough sometimes? In contrary to Rosti who has been online at IRC every day, I'm having difficulties communicating with him directly. And it was not only this match, but I've already been facing difficulties at earlier stages. Since the semifinals will be recorded, communication will be even more important. I've lost faith in him being more online.

This decision has the following consequences:
- t-block will officially finish at the 8th position.
- Rosti proceeds to the semi finals.
- iphys, Kevcel and Zemus play for positions #5, #6 and #7. They will play against each other in a group. Rules will be announced within 24 hours.

I know you both are actively trying to find each other to play. I've often seen both of you coming online, but never at the same time! :confused:
You've had a week to arrange a time and date...

I now give you 48 hours to finish this match. I cannot let the opponents wait for you any longer. I this match won't be played within 48 hours, none of you will proceed to the next round. If this happens, an ass, Edhuge and Kevin will play against each other in a group stage for the positions #9, #10 and #11.

EDIT: Decision B will NOT be changed.

I was really hoping we could do another TDS tourney in the future, but apparently it's hard to count on everyone playing their matches. If we ever do have another tournament, maybe we should do something more like the blockbox league, so it doesn't hold other people up from playing if certain matchups don't happen.

It was the first time I did something like this and it surely wasn't easy. I've learned 1 important thing: I'll never organise these type of Tournaments anymore [deadline structure] :p In the future I'd use set dates. ;)
And unfortunately none of the matches of the loser bracket were played. :(

I was able to finish the Tourney, but only because of some measurements...
The Final has been delayed for about 1,5 months compared to what I had in mind originally...I had to kick some players during group stage to prevent delay...to prevent more delay, I agreed to let the semi finals be played unrecorded.
[Btw: I'm sure the first set of Hayate vs Rosti had been recorded...I wonder whether Zemus still have the video.]

Also credits to those who were involved with the final [Hayate, jujube, Zemus, Blink]: After the semi finals were played, I had to leave home for a week...but I had let them understand that I wanted the Tourney to be done ''asap''...and so they've finished the Final that week without any urge of mine to play. \o/
