you know the leading athlete's eye is pretty better than ordinary person's.
e.g. L.HAMILTON(F1), R.FEDERER(TENNIS), L.MESSI(FOOTBALL), A-Rod(MLB).....
Now, certain study in sports medicine shows that the training for "SPORTS VISION" is one of effective methods to enhance athlete's ability.
I think it can be applied to tetris as well as sports. training "SPORTS VISION" and perceiving more quality and quantity of information than had previously, we also may expect to improve the peak performance of tetris.

nice challenge mask. i wish there was a way to test this sort of thing without the use of a mouse because i lack confidence in my mouse pointer movements, but i don't know how else it could work.

i was a little confused about how the average time is calculated. the 17 second run was my only time under 20 seconds, and in my history i had a 28 and a 30, but mostly low 20s.

how did Yoshihiro get under 10 seconds http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

i vote that any double-post in a records thread must be accompanied with a new record. then it's ok, even if it happened 15 minutes later. how many times can you beat yourself anyway? you'll have to slow down at some point, and i doubt anyone would intentionally improve slowly so they could post more often.

That depends on how substantial the second post is.
For example, this one could totally have been integrated into my previous post.

Funny stuff! ^^

Impressive sandibaby and Kevcel. My best is around 20 seconds so far. I'll post when I get a better average time.

Never. Why would one require posting twice in a row when there's an edit button?
This reminded me of the time that I posted three different personal bests in one post the same day for TAP Normal. Only my first score was noticed. It was only after I improved my score again more than 2 months later that I was able to get my personal best back on the leaderboard. And a week after that I posted a new score which caused me to triple post because no one was posting in the thread. Afterwards colour_thief was nice enough to intervene! ^^

New information needs to be edited in if no one has replied. If you're worried about people not noticing your new information, you can just delete the last post you made and post a new one with the new information. That will bump the topic to the top. How come I'm the only one who thinks this way?

tepples
09-20-2008, 02:53 AM
Another problem with restricting double posting is that it makes moderators' jobs harder. Splitting a topic that has diverged becomes much more difficult when moderators can't split an individual post that talks about both the original topic and the tangent, like Ai's above (http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25671#p25671).

that makes sense. i'd still like to post each record in a new post though, so there'd be a timestamp for each breakthrough. you could indicate the date and time for each edit, but that sounds like too much work to me.

I've got a question:
Has the ''25-game'' been removed or so???

Because when I click on the link now, I don't see the game anymore...or is it only my problem? http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

If it has been removed, I will never get the chance anymore to get below 10 sec... http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gifhttp://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gifhttp://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif

I agree with you, muf. People in my area somehow got the idea that it's cool to use "male" and "female" as a noun when referring to people. To me, it just sounds like their talking about lab animals.

Also, I have no problem with a girl being number 1. ^^
Here fixed!

I just used the word without giving it further thought. I was certainly not trying to get people's attention. I'll try choosing my words carefully from now on.

And congrats Kevcel!

I have been chasing Sandibaby for a while now; At the beginning I thought it would be impossible to get under 10 seconds, therefore I was focusing on Yoshihiro's time first.
The day before yesterday I had changed my ''clicking tactics'' and it was a success: that day was the first time I got under 10 seconds, and simultaneously, I had beaten Yoshihiro's time.
Now I had to try to beat Sandibaby's time...
I was playing the game this afternoon...and...suddenly:

I HAD DONE IT http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif
I even got under 9 seconds http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Okay, let me be serious:
I've never played Lockjaw [or any other 40 lines time attack] before, so I have to download it first...and don't expect a good time. On the contrary: it's more realistic to expect the worst time http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif

ps: atm I also don't have the time to practice a lot http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

but let me say that my arguments are both true http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

Kevcel: i think your quick thinking and physical precision would make you a very fast tetris player. but...it takes hard practice to improve your tetris speed. don't expect to jump right in and make 40 lines in 39 seconds with a week's practice, but don't get frustrated when you see you're unable to do that. at the same time, i wouldn't advise pushing hard for speed and forcing yourself to practice for hours a day if you're not having fun. in other words, don't make tetris a chore just to prove yourself to others. on the other hand, if you want to pursue time attack and won't get frustrated, then show us what you got foo http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Perhaps it uses something that doesn't actually provide reliable results? My guess at the moment is "add previous result, divide by two," hahaha.

Zaphod77
10-22-2008, 04:43 AM
The formula

(sum of all trials +median)/(number of trials + 1)

EDIT: hmm. well that works for the case of 1,2, and 3 trials... fails for the 10 trials. will need to try more...

jujube
10-22-2008, 05:34 AM
d'oh this is actually really simplistic.

once an average is attained (using zaphod's method, correct?) after a few trials (2-3 zaphod?), the time of a new trial is added to your previous average and divided by 2, and that becomes your new average.

I guess you're right;
but I want to say that I do have fun, when I try to push myself to the limit; not only for a tetris game. I always like to challenge myself; it's a great pleasure to see what you can achieve with hard working. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif

However, I won't do time attack now; I must spend my time to another important thing in my life; preparing for final exams at school http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But I'm certain I will do it later http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

The fact that I'm fast at clicking with a mouse, doesn't mean I'm fast at tetris with my keyboard http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I was only going for the best time, so I aborted any trials where I hesitated. Apparently, aborted trials don't count in your average time. 00:10:846 is my best average time without aborting trials in between, 00:09:467 (different screenshot, which I'll upload on request) is my best with aborted trials.
