The opportunity presented itself, and I went ahead and splurged on TGM3. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif I know everyone will ask me, so... I paid 189,000 JYP for the Type-X with TGM3. Though I also got more stuff too. The package arrived today:

What's inside? 13 Kg of pure awesome.
As well as a helluva lot of packing peanuts, apparently. This is the first glimpse I got inside... That's a damn thick collection of manuals.
Apparently sanwa has an elephant for a logo? Weird. Anyhow let's open up this narrow box...

A replacement control panel! Oh god it's so shiny I can't take my eyes off it. I got this to replace my current 3-button panel, which is fairly scratched (some married guy apparently LOVED playing player 2) and is also starting to rust (sloppy washing? spilt trendy beverages? I can only guess). As a bonus I get to try out sanwa sticks (I currently use seimitsu) so I'll get to try the 2 choice brands of TGM players.
Another sanwa box? Hmmm....

It's a VC-J2 unit, which will allow me to split the video signal while I play on the machine so I can finally start capturing my play. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif I'm still missing something to do the actual capturing though, if you guys have any suggestions. Right now I'm thinking of picking of a DVD+HDD recorder.
The Type-X with TGM3!! It's much smaller than I was expecting, but this little guy weighs a TON.

And finally a picture of the manuals and (copied) artwork.
Not pictured: a Sega Naomi converter thing so I can play the game with a JAMMA setup. It's just a boring black brick thing though.

wouldn't a video card with a relevant hookup be most ideal for recording? at any rate, very very awesome, i am beyond jealous.

I bought it at http://www.sophia-corp.jp/ (http://www.sophia-corp.jp/default.htm). They randomly had it in stock when I was going to order a VC-J2. They speak English and will ship to Canada and had it in stock (it never lasts long)... That's why I splurged. Who knows when I'd get that kind of chance again? Advice: their English stocklist is not 100% accurate. If you check http://www.tops-game.jp/ (http://www.tops-game.jp/default.htm), their Japanese page, you will find an accurate stock list as well as prices. A relevant example: when I purchased Ti it was removed from the Japanese list, but it still remains on the English one. But they don't have it in stock! They do have TAP at 75,600 JPY though. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

ROAD TRIP TO TORONTO! Who's driving and who do we have to pick up?!
My god. So new. So perfect.
This is the first time Ti will be analyzed by non Japanese people. Finally some knowledge of this game and how it works.
With a good capture card, we can get better quality videos than Airka's official, and no TGM-ACE advertising or mirrored playfield in the way. Seeing how the title screen, demos, hi-score screen looks like. At least that is what I am interested to see myself.

It's a lot of money whichever currency you use.
Unless you actually rented out goes on it, but that's illegal, isn't it?

I have no idea how the law works in Canada, but in the United States:
(e) Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 (4) and 106 (5), in the case of an electronic audiovisual game intended for use in coin-operated equipment, the owner of a particular copy of such a game lawfully made under this title, is entitled, without the authority of the copyright owner of the game, to publicly perform or display that game in coin-operated equipment, except that this subsection shall not apply to any work of authorship embodied in the audiovisual game if the copyright owner of the electronic audiovisual game is not also the copyright owner of the work of authorship.
what about the "not for use outside japan" disclaimer? is that not binding?

what about the "not for use outside japan" disclaimer? is that not binding?
I'm pretty sure it is considering Arika only have (had?) the rights to make Tetris games for the Japanese market.
I HATE YOU http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

They mean by this a commercial use outside of japan (as an arcade game is supposedly created for a commercial use), which is illegal.
No company can sue you with such disclaimer as long as you don't use it as a commercial way.
and in any case, it's just useless to debate about this disclaimer, who care ? http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Time for another update. A little late because I got it working. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif But hopefully interesting to some of you.
[/url]
Here you can see the machine before I started installing my new toys.
This is a look inside the opened control panel, which is filthy. When I first got this machine, in addition to hauling back to my house, I had to disassemble it to get it through my front door. By the time I'd reassembled it, I was tired and couldn't be bothered to give it a good cleaning. Time to change that now while I'm full of energy. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
Oh and what's that blue spot on the left?
It's powdered plastic from a worn Seimitsu LS-32 guide. It starts out with a bulbous "clover" pattern, and as it wears it becomes closer to a (preferable) rounded diamond shape.
Just a shot clearly showing the worn plastic, for some reason.
The old control panel has been removed, and the interior is dramatically cleaner.
The shiny new panel all installed and wired. It actually took me way more time to figure out how to switch the guide to 4-way on the Sanwa sticks than the entire rest of the installation... So simple in the end too. I'll be making some wiki entries about joysticks and 4-way guides and whatnot to prevent you guys from having the same trouble I did.
A quick test in TAP's service mode confirms all is well. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7849/cpworkspy9.jpg)
A bit more tweaking and now I've got the proper 4 button setup.
After staring incomprehensibly at Japanese manuals for some time, I arrived at what I hoped was the proper way to hook up the Type X unit and the I/O board. (Also in the background you can see Ti's older brother TAP still inside my cabinet.)
