EDIT: Oh please. Official Guidelines put the playfield dimensions at 22 blocks OR HIGHER? That's nonsense. Is it because the spawn can be higher but the only visible is 20h?

There's no Vancouver TC members as far as I know.
I want a piece of that guy that challenged you too, sounds like an easy win. Gotta laugh at the lessons though.

Actually, the TDS playfield can be higher than 22 blocks. If you stack I's on the left and let your opponent give you a ton of garbage, you can get blocks into the forty-somethingth row.

Exploiting isn't my concern, the general size of the playing field is.
That Tetris Worlds is considered by anyone to be any sort of Gold Standard to what we have access to today, I just... I don't understand. It filled a gap in our game supply drought. We've all moved on.

I thought it was surprisingly well written for something that looked like it should have been posted on April 1st. I've been wondering if it was a TC member, because it seemed to show up right after people here were talking about playing drunk in the Tetris Party tourney, and it reminded me a lot of that post by corrosive about giving Tetris lessons.

Tetris Worlds was a turning point in the Guideline. Tetris DS, Tetris Splash, and Tetris Party were all based on behaviors tested in Tetris Worlds. The "playfield taller than 20 rows" is just the vanish zone, which happens to be present in all TGM games. (Alternatives to the vanish zone include spawning in the playfield and chopping off the top of pieces above the ceiling, as seen in Dr. Mario; or spawning above the playfield and ending the game once a single block locks above the ceiling, as seen in Tengen's game, The New Tetris, and TDS Push.) And I seem to remember Mr. Rogers explaining (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/specialArt.cfm?artid=11267) why he kept TW's behaviors: because they make the game easier to play on mobile phone keypads while not adversely affecting 2- or 3-minute <1G score attack, which appears to be his preferred game type.
