My experience :
The first 5 months was a real pleasure as i felt my progress every week.
My biggest problem was doing tetrises after level 500. So i've trained hard in 20G mode.
This last month of training (May 2011) was not efficient as i did a lot of zombie playing. :facepalm:

Last week, i saw some progress in changing a little bit my play (trying to always concentrate on the 5th column after level 500).

I'm so happy to be GM !!!

Now I'll give a try on TGM 2 ! O_O

Once you get used to the faster speeds after level 700 clearing the game with at least S5 won't be so difficult. Best way to practice for this is by playing Death mode until reaching level 300 is no problem anymore.

I was able to watch the game a few moments ago. Very nice game with some crazy overhangs. The current hardware I'm using won't allow me to encode a movie. I'll try to do it later this week if you want. It'll be necessary to disable the siren using a cheat if it's possible. ^^

Anyway thank you for your reply, I was imagining myself trying to find the source of the inp bug, and try again and again to get a faster GM.
You have to know that when I try to play for this, my consistency terribly decreases, in average, I reach lv 150 in such a session. I break 500 in 5-10% of my attempts.

Haha that's exactly the problem. If people were doing their best at every section, we would get ridiculously low times (I remember that 6 minutes and a half theoretical record)

I had the same problem. Besides, nowadays if I make one single section 5 seconds faster than it normally should, I lose 10 seconds the one after it and eventually die.

Time matters a lot I guess :)

Keep in mind, when you enter a section with a very high stack and downstack with tetrises all the way during that section (and don't get levelstopped) you generally get a damn good section time.
This is because there's some time hidden in your stack, since you save the time you spent building your stack that high in other sections.

Only a matter of statistic, sometime, when you just cut a little bit your perfection, you increase your probability of success, working that way is called the consistency, something I never understood (or accepted).
In fact, try to sell a bit of this perfection for more security.

Also thanks for your compliment, I am sure you may appreciate to know that I did maybe 300 attempts or more in 2 weeks to get that video. 10% of these games were lv 500 passed.

Don´t worry, you know that the game won´t evoluate, but you yes, you will improve and soon this GM rank wont be a pb anymore.

Almost there nicofromtokyo! Gm before the end of the year is almost a certainty if you keep this up. Try to get the sub 20G time closer to 6:30. I believe this will be easier than pushing harder in 20G at the moment. Once you can get an S9 closer to 13:30 you can consider yourself at Gm level. Just a little more! ^^

Nico, work on stacking clean and low for tetrises only.
This way, you can slow down your play (and have more time for thinking) but since you're doing only tetrises, your time will be much faster.
That's how I improve my best time every time I improve it ^^

I did a 904@12:15 last week, and 30 seconds too late that time. My best sub 20G is now 6:43 and my best 20G is 6:36, but these F]:[*>g torikan 1 & 2 give me a HARD time. I can go to 500 with S5 and do several performances in a row in a single session, and then only break the first torikans like only 2 times on a entire day of play :colbert: . W-T-F ?

I am a player of tetris since I am young, 10 years old maybe, I have started on Gameboy, with the classic game and the DX version (too easy).
I have played many years on the classic version and I reached 275 lines 2 years ago.
I have played some other tetris games recently, super tetris 2 and 3, a bit of Tetris DS, but today I am more attracted by Tetris the grand master, since I have seen some terrible videos from japan last year. I play TGM1 today and I am S8. In searching with some names of players of youtube, I found this forum finaly.

Le systme de TGM me passionne vraiment, plus j'en apprend, et plus je trouve que c'est le tetris le plus subtile qui existe, c'est exigant, hardu, tout en étant parfaitement logique.
Le lock delay infini de TETRIS DS m'avait rendu septique, avec TGM je suis comblé. On progresse vite dans ce que l'on aime, c'est peut etre la réponse a ta question.

Damn, I FINALLY managed to play with my tgm pcb today (have no arcade setup at home nor at my parent's house atm, need to hang to my brother's appartment to play on an astro city)

And... What a shock O_o
The difference between emulation and pcb on TGM1 is as big as, let's say, the difference between tgm1 and tgm2: for two hours, I did have the sensation that I never played this game ;) and finally managed to get two Gm in a row: 10:36 and 10:26 beating the best score on the pcb from a japanese player named "Jin" (is it possible it is THE Jin ? :p )

It was not a good game, failed the first torikan by a tiny bit, the only good thing was that I did not die.

When I play for speed these 2 times are about average. Best T1 was 3:35ish, best T2 was 6:15ish.

I did not practice 20G for speed yet...I think I have to start that now since I survive 20G just for about 75 levels if I go for speed.

Need to see a video to find out where your issues are.

You should be able to make the first half in about 6 minutes and a bit without too much issue. Good pace for 20G would be a section in the time it takes the music to loop through once assuming your stack stays at about the same height on average.

But a video would be nice. :)

@Key: It's a bug with TGM1's 2P simultaneous setting. :p Let's say two players both finish the game with times faster than whatever is 2nd for Today's Ranking; it will show Today's Ranking 2nd for both players at the initials screen rather than consider the comparison between both of their games. If the faster player puts their initials in first, they initially fill the slot for 2nd and bump the old score to 3rd. However, the slower player's initials screen still wants to fill the slot for 2nd -- the comparison is made when the initials entry appears, and not when the actual insertion into the ranking is made. :p
