Wow...although it was not too surprising.

Kitaru when I come down to Cali we'll make a roadtrip all the way down to AI and we can destroy all the machine records.

What if the high scores weren't reset and this happens to be one of the Ti machines that kan, jin8 and zab have played on... http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif

I say Kitaru, me, and the other California TGM players make a road trip to AI and prove why what most perceive as yet another Tetris game deserves to stay in an American arcade.

Zircean: He is still playing. This was uploaded today on his account: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc4CRgJNEkA He's just too cool for us on the forums and IRC, Skype etc... Ridiculous I say. I am disappointed in him for just disappearing without any words... :S

It's too bad I'd suck hard with a stick, otherwise I'd be down for a road trip to put at least an m6 in the rankings. Surely the hiscore is worse than that, right? Why couldn't this have been in the Bay Area?!

(I am in Europe, btw, for a month, so no tetris for me)

So I hear AI regularrs are warming up to TGM3, but think Classic Rule is a load of crap.

All the more reason to one day roadtrip down to AI and evangelize ARS. ~_^

So TC's mikehaggar went down there recently. Ti is set up in a lovely candycab with sanwa sticks and buttons. The sticks were set to 8-way, but he made them change it to 4-way. Now everything is perfect if anyone else wants to make the trip.

He's going to make another trip soon... He said he'll take some pictures too.

mikehaggar
08-05-2009, 10:04 AM
I went again and spent the whole day playing Ti. I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Ti is now in a Megalo cab (one of these):
http://www.system16.com/cabinets/megal0410.jpg

The reason this is bad is because this cab has a widescreen monitor, and so the game graphics are stretched to fit the screen. Though it looks funny, it's not so bad and you get used to it after playing a handful of times.

However, the good news is that now the game is just 25 cents instead of 50 cents!! Just a quarter to play Ti, a complete steal. The sad thing is though that they probably lowered it to 25 because hardly anybody plays it. I hope people start playing it, or it may be removed in the near future.

I'll post some pics soon.

Ray Ayanami

Ew, 4:3 on a 16:9.

Are the sticks 4-way and all?

mikehaggar
08-06-2009, 09:24 AM
oh yes, they definitely are 4 way. I know the stretched graphics are funny, but honestly, you get used to it pretty quick. And once you do, you have Ti with japanese controls for 25 goddamn cents (about 1/4 what it costs in most Japanese arcades). I'll take that any day!!

I'm down in LA for the week visiting my grandparents so I managed to make a trip to AI today. Pics commence.

I don't recognize this kind of cabinet. It had some sort of scrolling LED display in place of a normal marquee. Regardless, the screen was beautiful and the controls were in perfect condition.

Nice coverage TWF and good job. ^^

On the Sakura leaderboard when it says 100% clear is that the same as the ALL (including extra stages) displayed during play?

KevinDDR
12-29-2009, 07:47 PM
I believe it's not. ALL is more than 15 stages anyway. IIRC, Clear is the percentage of levels that you successfully completed. You can either fail a stage's time limit or skip out of it, and that would cause your percentage to drop. Additionally, you could have 100% clear and then not get the EX stages.

Ai
12-30-2009, 08:59 PM
Totally missed the number of stages played shown on the leaderboard. ALL is the 20 regular stages plus 7 EX stages. ^^;

TGM3 is gone from AI. Sad. Replaced by Monkey Ball. I went down there yesterday to confirm this.

mikehaggar
04-14-2010, 08:31 PM
The owner told me that the motherboard broke (or something like that) and that it will be back soon.

Monkey Ball did not replace it, where'd you get that idea? Monkey Ball just happens to be a new game that they attained (it's not even in the same place that Ti used to be).

BTW, what were you doing in LA Kevin????

KevinDDR
04-14-2010, 11:58 PM

Anyway yeah I was in LA during my California college tour thing I have been doing for the last two weeks. Mostly in Norcal but I had a couple of days in LA. I would have loved to have met up with you but I honestly had a hard time even cramming in my trip over to AI.

SWR
05-19-2010, 10:11 PM
Thanks. I'm not sure if it's noticeable, but does it feel like Shirase is easier on the actual TGM3 than on mimics like Texmaster or Nullpomino, or am I just crazy?

KevinDDR
05-19-2010, 10:54 PM
It's actually harder than Texmaster due to garbage inaccuracies.

Zaphod77
05-20-2010, 05:31 AM
Perhaps, but its' more responsive.

WHen you play on a laptop, there's usually a bit of LCD lag. PLaying on a crt in arcade, ti's all removed.

You also remove all pc converter lag, and all the lag programmed into the PC game itself. I've found Texmaster to be somewhat laggy at the higher speeds.

Whearas in the arcade itself, there's no lag at all. That helps. a LOT.

KevinDDR
05-20-2010, 05:53 AM
Maybe on your laptop. I play Texmaster on a desktop using a CRT and a native USB stick and there's no lag. Turn Vsync on/off, see if that helps you. As for Ti, there is actually a small amount of lag induced by the JVS I/O board or the JAMMA/JVS converter, whichever applies to you. Ti also actually drops below 60fps when two or more line clear effects are on screen at once, which is kind of funky.

SWR
05-20-2010, 07:05 AM
I must be crazy then. I oddly perform better on the arcade version. Oh well, that's what counts most.

I don't think it's that bad. I don't think anything within the game is bad enough to slow it down. But if the system has just booted, various Windows whatevers happening in the background can slow it down.

SWR
05-22-2010, 07:57 PM
Got to level 915 with all cools. Unfortunately, I do not know what my final grade was because it was during an exam (S6 which I obviously achieved). My guess would put me anywhere from m3 to m6 give or take. I'm scared to get to the credit roll. I can do fine on vanish I'm sure, but the invisible roll will kill me. D:

Anyone here (preferably a Classic Rule user) wanna pimp the Ti machine when it arrives at AX (courtesy of AX and AI pulling some strings)? I'd hate to hear "oh, no one played TGM3 except those people whose only experience with Tetris is Game Boy."

He's not as good as you, but he's a solid Classic player. He can get to 999 in TAP Master for reference. I'm not sure exactly what his Ti records are but he's a ways away from clearing 999 there.

SWR
07-10-2010, 11:24 AM
Ah. Well he could school me in TAP then. I've never quite mastered the original ARS style. I need my I-kicks. D:
Good news, been getting Silver SKs on 600-700 now. Getting better. 8)

mikehaggar
07-11-2010, 08:22 AM
I'm not very good at Ti since I hardly play it...TAP is my game of choice at the moment. I think I could get close to clearing Ti now though...i mean, isn't it just TAP's speed curve with extra wall kicks to help? It does have cools and regrets, but besides that is there a difference in terms of completion?

I haven't played Ti in a while, but I remember I used to get to around the same level as TAP....it's just that when you saw me play last CT I couldn't get far in TAP either...

Kitaru
07-11-2010, 08:52 AM
i mean, isn't it just TAP's speed curve with extra wall kicks to help?
Haha no, it gets quite a bit faster. See http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/TGM3#Speed_Timings vs. http://tetrisconcept.net/wiki/TAP#Speed_Timings_2

mikehaggar
07-11-2010, 09:24 AM
actually, i'm right...if you don't get any cools, it's the exact same speed as TAP all the way through

Kitaru
07-11-2010, 10:18 AM
Yes, granted. However, the circumstances under which you would earn no Cools and still clear are very slim.

mikehaggar
07-11-2010, 06:09 PM
I see now that getting just two cools (even if undone by a regret or two in those sections) would result in having to survive at least a section of something comparable to 500+ in T.A. Death. That will be tricky, seeing as how I've never survived past the 400 section in T.A. Death.

I guess I do have a long ways to go. I dunno though...the extra line wallkicks are DAMN helpful, though I'm not good enough at Ti to utilize hold and several piece previews at all...

SWR
07-11-2010, 09:24 PM
You get used to it after some time.
Regardless, the speed timing is pretty hardcore (IMO). For me, it's not the lock delay, but the ARE which seems to screw me up.

It's less tricky when you've got three previews, hold and floorkicks.
