View Full Version : Garbage systems for cascade?

The garbage system used in Tetris (GB), Tetris & Dr. Mario, Tetris DX, and Tetris DS gives 1 line of garbage for a double, 2 lines for a triple, and 4 lines for a tetris. (TDS also has special garbage amounts for lines cleared with a T in specific situations, as well as a bonus for back-to-back difficult clears.) But what garbage system is used when gravity is set to recursive, as in The Next Tetris, the fan game Quadra, and the recursive gimmicks of Tetris Worlds that emulate The Next Tetris ("sticky") and Quadra ("cascade")?

my best guess for Quadra (http://www.bofunk.com/video/3701/quick_quadra.html) is 1 line of garbage sent for each line cleared, at least when 4+ lines are cleared at once. i haven't played much Quadra though, that's just what i gather from watching the video.

What about this?

Single = 0 line of garbage

Double = 1 line of garbage

Triple = 2 lines of garbage

Tetris = 4 lines of tetris

5+ = 5+1 lines of garbage for each additional line cleared

TSS = 2 lines of garbage

TSD = 4 lines of garbage

TST = 6 lines of garbage

BtB = includes only 4+ line clears and T-Spins

Cascading line clears = amount of garbage of individual line clears + 1 for each 2+ line clear (e.g. Double Double would be 2 lines of regular garbage + 2 lines of cascade reward garbage) BtB is also calculated for cascading 4+ line clears and T-Spins.

I think quadra does something like n-1, actually...

Quadra is n-1. [1] (http://www.roncli.com/pages.asp?PageID=17#para5) Tetris Worlds's cascade mode didn't have knock-out, only race, so there was no garbage. As for TNT, I only played the PC version, and I don't remember having a versus mode. I'm sure the online Dreamcast version did, but it's possible that there was a non-garbage approach to that as well.

Didn't you say that The New Tetris was n-1 when you did a t-spin cascade? I remember you telling me in IRC that it used to be effective when playnig against your sister...

i don't know if it was n-1, but it was definitely effective in multiplayer.
